Cannot log in - Application Error

Hi,

I just upgraded to 1.8 and when I tried to log in I got an application error. I get the following (German) error message:

'Die Anweisung in "0x6933954a" verweist auf Speicher in "0x000000e0". Der Vorgang "read" konnte nicht auf dem Speicher durchgeführt werden."

This translates roughly to:

"The instruction in "0x6933954a" points to memory at "0x000000e0". The procedure "read" couldn't access memory. "

This happens during the login process, not when starting the application. As far as I remember, I haven't had had any problems with updates before. My system is a Windows XP Professional, Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40 GHz, 512 MB RAM; Video Card is an ATI Radeon 9600 with 256 MB RAM.

After the upgrade didn't work, I tried installing the game anew in a different location, but I get the same error.

Does anyone have the same problem or a possible solution?

Thanks,
Sean Hadlee

Sean -

I know you said you attempted to reinstall to a different location.

However - Did you completely uninstall first?

Regardless of the location you specify for install, SL uses the same directory for cache. Perhaps a complete wipe of everything 'SL' would be helpful?

Ich hoffe dieses hilft! :)

Hi Travis,

thanks for the reply. Yes, it did help. I uninstalled, deleted the folder in Documents and Settings/../Application Data (or whatever it's called in English :) ) and reinstalled and now I can log in again. Just wish SL wouldn't treat me like a newbie now :D.

Thanks,

Hi,

it's me again. I guess my joy was a bit premature. I was able to log in one time, then logged out and just tried to log back in, but no luck :(. The same error again. Any other ideas?

Hi,

okay, for everyone who may have this problem as well: the error appeared because I didn't have Service Pack 2 installed. Installed it, and everything works fine now.
