Has anyone had the feeling that spheres are looking less round and more like they are made from straight line segments?

Yes, look at them closer or turn up your detail settings.

It's obvious that part of the FPS improvement in 1.7 is a reduction in the LOD thresholds in the renderer. I've noticed curves become visibly less detailed at shorter distances now. This was a very sensible optimisation imho.

Definitely - but then, like most people, I've had to compromise my graphics settings since 1.7 to get a reasonable frame rate and object, AV and tree detail are now all at 50%... :-(

All very well for people to have a sig that exhorts you to 'be the change' - I wonder if it's ever occurred to them that they might be something that needs changing...?

Funny, I've not seen any problems except what looks like a bug with attachment handling causing laggy effects in the client. I've actually increased my view settings on my machine and still get a faster FPS than I used to in 1.6.

When the latest patch came out, it said that local lighting had been changed to put less of a load on the system. To my delight, for the first time in a very long time, I found I was able to use local lighting and get very reasonable frame rates.

I enjoyed this for two days, and then my framerate plummeted. When I took off my local lighting after several hours of enduring sub 1 fps framerates, I found that I went up to 15 fps (good for me).

I have tried clearing my cache, but things have remained the same, unfortunately.
