Messaging In and Out of SL

Is there a way to message someone in SL without actually being logged into SL?

Assuming you have an account and all I mean

i dont think there is a way ATM!!! i have to wait for some one oto messages me it gose to my e-mail then we play tag that way

You can RESPOND to people offline though. If you have "Send IM to email" checked and someone IM's you while you're offline, you can reply to the email. At least I can with gmail.

Yeah, but only for a while. After a certain amount of time (anyone know how long??) the email session is terminated. The key in the email address is actually this session key, not the resident's key. This allows you to have a conversation, as long as it is initiated in-world. As Lee points out, this very effectively blocks spam.

There is a way to do this using a scripted object. If I recall correctly Max Case made such an object recently. The way to do this is to email the scripted object, which will in turn IM the person you want to talk to.
