I am planning on buying a new laptop in a few weeks - THIS time getting one that will run Second Life. This is not intended to be a desktop replacement machine. I would LIKE for it to be lighter rather than heavy, but this may be a trade-off that I will have to live with. I am looking at a Dell Latitude D820. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Also I want something that will be able to handle the new update for SL. Also does anyone know if the following graphics card will handle SL? VIDIA® Quadro FX 350M 512MB Turbocache, OpenGL Thanks in advance for any advice

The Quadro series from Nvidia arent made for gaming, they are used for graphic designing, more for businesses, will you be doing this at all with your laptop? Quadro's are also listed as "untested" with SL, so if you must use it, its at your own risk.

This laptop will be used for "light" business work (document generation), e-mail connectivity, some PS work, and SL. I don't know if Photoshop counts as graphic designing. I use PS to do things for SL, not for anything else. Hope this clarifies.

I think a Geforce series video card would best suite you for your needs, what is your price range?

a D820 is big and heavy, but it performs good. Id go for something a bit smaller
you shouldnt have any problems with a Quadro and SL. Most all Quadro chips are the exact same processors as Geforce's. The geforce ones are just usually inferioir or fails certain tests and have parts of the GPU disabled and the name Geforce stamped on it. Use to nvidia didnt make the change in the chip itself like they do now, and you could modifiy and move some surface mount componets around on some low end geforce cards and make them Quadros. They arent quite as close as they used to be in all regards, but still thats a decent mobile Quadro in the Dell and its very very unlikely youll have an issue.

I run SL happily on my IBM ThinkPad T42 (now replaced by the very similar T43). It seems quite happy and almost as fast as my desktop as long as the power management is turned off.
