hmm..have you been messing with the debug menu? You might have unchecked some texture in that.

The thread starter is a new user, having the problem while on OI and HI.
I believe other people are having the same problems, according to Live Help. No solution was available, only the suggestion to update drivers, which didn't work I think he may have tried the Omega Drivers already.

Ah, how bizarre. That's very strange, it reminds me of what I see when I go into the debug menu and turn off textures. The texture is replaced by blackness. It might be part of the texture problems I've been seeing, and this next update is suppose to be taking care of that. What I've noticed is that people who are using Radeon are more likely to have texture problems.

I have a Radeon 9200, and I have seen this problem when the 'Avatar Vertex Program' checkbox is checked under Preferences > Adv. Graphics. Unchecking this box might help if it hasn't been tried before. Hope this helps.

From: Numa Herbst I have a Radeon 9200, and I have seen this problem when the 'Avatar Vertex Program' checkbox is checked under Preferences > Adv. Graphics. Unchecking this box might help if it hasn't been tried before. Hope this helps. 2 video cards back I had a Radeon 7500. The black face phenomena was an everyday occurence weather or not "Avatar Vertex Program" was checked. I was told at the time (SL v 1.5) that this was just something I would have to live with as long as I used a Radeon card. Not a happy answer and I do NOT know how true this still is 1 year later.

Thank you all for your help. I have found that if I wear one particular combination of shape and clothing my avatar renders fine, so I'm using that for now, but if I try and change clothing ie to something new I have bought, it appears as a block around my head instead of me actually wearing the clothes. Since switching to the omega drivers second life has become convinced that my catalyst driver is out of date. I don't know if anyone else has had that problem. Now that I have at least something I can wear and be rendered, this is less of an important thing for me. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next update.
sincerely, Manz

Ah, you really need to completely uninstall Catalyst before installing Omega. I've found uninstalling regularly works fine for me, peeps here always suggest using Diver Cleaner to make sure though.

It's ATI cards, not SL. Until they support the openGL standard there will always be problems with ATI cards.

What? They don't fully support OpenGL?!? Why did nobody tell me that when I bought it? Still, other than some Demoscene stuff I haven't really had any problems...

I've tried using SL on a 3ghz P4 with an ATI FireGL V3100 128meg, and I get this faceless bug as well. It seems pretty unlikely that an OpenGL accelerator card is not supporting OpenGL properly. Especially due to the fact that when I run engineering software on computers with no 3D card, I get all sorts of drawing errors and glitches, but when I run the same software on a computer with the V3100 card suddenly all object edges and curves are drawn true and proper.
