I was inworld and got an IM from a group I'm in that if I was using an nVidia card it would help my performance if I disabled VBO in Preferences. I did that and it seemed to help a bit. Anyone more clued in than me about these things have anymore info about nVidia and Open GL VBO?

If this was covered previously I couldn't find it and would be grateful for the link.

This whitepaper explains what vertex buffer objects (VBOs) are, and how to use them.

On my old PC with a GeForce FX 5500, VBO definitely hurt performance in some ways (low frame rate) but helped in others (faster rezzing), on my new PC with a GeForce 7500 VBO is an improvement with no noticeable drawbacks.

I switched from my old ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128mb card to an Nvidia 7600GS 512mb card a couple months back.

Whilst using the new Nvidia card, jumping from the 1.13 client to the 1.14 client with vbo turned on, my frame rate doubled. Literally doubled.

Can't recommend Nvidias for second life enough :)

In general to be fair Nvidia do give a better frame rate in SL it should be noted that you've gone from an ancient to reasonably recent card. Not just that but for £20 more the X1950 ATI cards can be had which are superior.

Well like I say, i noticed the performance boost from 1.13 to 1.14 with the Nvidia, I didn't meant the jump from the ATI.

I'm very relieved I chose Nvidia now after reading all the ATI horror stories so kinda glad I didn't go for the one you mentioned :)

This one is passive heatsink cooled too, I like to keep the computer noise down to bare minimum using 120mm ultra quiet case fans.
