When I go into the preferences button > Graphics, I see a slider that says UI Size. What does UI stand for and how will moving this slider up and down tweak my performance?
Also, what does checking the box that says "Use Resolution Independent Scale" do?

UI Size
It just changes the size of buttons user interface you see, no performance to gain or loose changing it, makes it smaller/larger incase you run in a low/high resoultion (800x600 vs 1900x1600 -window offcourse) you can change it so its actually possible to read it.
But its broken a long time so its kinda useless <1.00 makes your mouse sliiide slowly around.

Dunno about that one, havnt seen it do anything.
