I have a Compusa router which has options for System, WAN, LAN, NAT, Firewall, and Routing.

I have the firewall set to disable.

In the NAT option there is a sub option for Virtual Server.

This has places to put ranges of port numbers and has a place to set the whether these are for TCP or UDP. It looks like a place where you could enter the information from the Tech Support section of the wiki:

From: someone
Hardware firewalls need to allow access on certain network ports. Second Life needs to connect to ports 443/TCP, 12035/UDP, 12036/UDP, and 13000-13050/UDP. You should configure your firewall to allow outbound traffic on those ports, and related inbound traffic. You'll need to consult your firewall's documentation, or the manufacturer's website, for instructions on how to make these changes to your firewall.

The explanation of the function of this part of the router settings is:

From: someone
You can configure the router as a virtual server so that remote users accessing services such as the Web or FTP at your local site via public IP addresses can be automatically redirected to local servers configured with private IP addresses. In other words, depending on the requested service (TCP/UDP port numbers), the router redirects the external service request to the appropriate server (located at another internal IP address).

The columns in the Virtual Server settings page for the router are
Private IP, Private Port, Type(TCP or UDP), Public Port, and Enabled

When I set fill these in with the settings descibed above and click apply on the router page the indicators for TCP or UDP that were set to UDP chagne back to showing TCP.

Is this the correct place to enter the settings the wiki describes?

If you aren't getting any error messages to start with does this mean you don't need to bother?

What drives me to ask these questions is intolerably slow rendering - houses often don't draw till after you are inside, and gray loading textures that last for minutes.
