Hi, I have been searching but have been unable to find if there is any "fix" for people who have 64bit Vista with an ATI Radeon x1950 Dual Core machine. I currently have all of my drivers updated as I installed Vista myself and updated everything manually. I am really unsure where to go. Currently, when I log in the game, I am in the game for about 1 second then it just crashes me and asks me to send a bug report. It doesn't even tell me why I have crashed.

Is there something I can do or turn off? I'd really like to be able to play again. I hate playing on the laptop.

Thanks

you did not mention if your using an intel cpu or not, but on my intel dual core machine i cant use VBO or it crashes. uncheck the VBO box in your preferences and see what happens. on my amd dual core machine VBO works fine.

I'm using AMD unfortunately =(

When I built this comp I had it in mind with AMD processor and I was going to crossfire my video cards but ended up selling the second one as there isn't a lot of games right now which take advantage of crossfiring.

Basically here are my specs:

AMD Athalon 64 FX-62 Dual Core Processor 2.81 GHz
2Gigz of Memory
Windows Vista Ultima 64-bit
ATI Radeon x1950 with: Catalyst® Control Center Version 2007.0721.2141.36895
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value - Driver version: 6.0.1.1241
Realtek HD Audio (mother board default sound) driver version - 6.0.1.5490

I do use two different sources of audio. I use my sound blaster for my speakers (music, games etc) and my Realtek for my VOip (ala Skype Ventrilo etc). It seems to work with every other game I play.

" Is there something I can do or turn off "

Get windows xp dualboot and save yourself the aggrivation , long as you have ati & vista it wont work very well 'till Ati get their opengl drivers in somewhat decent shape.

lookin into that now -- thank you. kinda feel like a dumba** for saying my drivers were all updated. I just assumed though because i recently did an update check not just a few days ago. heh

as for dual booting, that is too much of a PITA for just one game. I like to multitask when I'm in second life. I'd hate to dual boot, have to reinstall all of my games / programs etc just to play one game.

Well, it works now. It didn't work right away however. I had to mess with some of Catalyst settings to get it to work, but I am able to login now. I had to make a lot of the settings be set by the game instead of Catalyst. I also messed with Antistropic Filtering as I know in previous games that has caused issues of performance for me. The main thing I did though was disable Catalyst AI.

Whatever I did, it works now.

LL really needs to look under the hood, why does SL have issues with new hardware, seems like anything thats older than 2005 seems to have some form of performance issues or headache

AMD X2, geforce 8600, ddr2 crapton of ram, sata II runs like crap

AMD XP, geforce 6600, ddr1 1gb, ata 133 can peak 115 fps

bottleneck anyone?
