I opened up SL in hopes to interact with the rest of the SL world. I get the popup that I need to install the update. As usuall I click ok and the update downloads. Here is where the problem starts. I get another popup... this one is from my PC. The message is as follows:

"NSIS Error

The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus.

You may want to contact the author of theis installer to obtain a new copy.

I may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch
(NOT RECOMMENDED)"

Some sort of asstance is needed please. Preferably a linden or tech support to address this. Also I've read a few other posts to see if maybe someone else might have had this issue but to no avail. :(

~~To finish off: I'm sorry if this has been posted. I'm not one to keep up with forums, not to mention I'm not an avid SL addict like most of the people who've posted. Please forgive the repost if this is the case, but I need some assitance. (I mean no insult by the word "addict" to those of you who would take offence.) ~~

try this page http://secondlife.com/community/downloads.php

Its easy to corrupt autoupdate for SL, usually helps to download it from this page instead of using autoupdate (same size anyway)

Unfortunately, I tried both the auto update 4 times... and the community site 3.

This is getting annoying. I'm going to shut down, sleep on it and then try again after 4 or 5 hours of sleep. Anymore help would be appreciated.

Thanx guys for the thoughts.

Every case we've seen of this over the years is the result of something on the resident's computer. The most common causes are:

1) You've already tried to download the file, and it was corrupted. Future attempts fail because your PC thinks the file is already completed and doesn't even try to download it again.
2) Norton, McAfee, Zonealarm, or other antivirus or internet security software blocks the updater.
3) Bad temporary files on your computer prevent the installer from unpackaging itself.

If you have any antivirus or internet security software install, reconfigure it FIRST:
http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=TechConfigFirewall

Then, follow these steps to clear any temporary or installer files and reinstall SL:
http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=TechFullReinstall

Hope this helps!

ok. I've followed the instructions of the TIKI.

I'm still getting corrupt or incomplete Download. I've followed the instructions for the Anti-virus and the possible files that are left in the cache. Deleted 5 times as that is how many times I've tried to DL the installer.

Now I no longer have SL on my computer because THAT is what the TIKI told me to do. The installer is still corrupt therefore I can't get SL back.

I'll be the first to say that there is something wrong with my client. Thats why I came on here. But I'm begining to suspect that maybe there is something wrong on the other end.

Well, we do verify that the downloads we place on the webpage work correctly before we release them.

We also test them once they're on the webpage.

And, of course, if the file was corrupted on the webpage, residents could not access it, and subsequently, couldn't log in.

We have a new version today, which has just been released. It's up on the Download page, I've made sure it works on several machines, and from the looks of things inworld, 2000 residents have successfully installed it so far.

I'm not sure how else I can test or demonstrate whether the downloads page works correctly. You might contact your ISP and inform them that you are unable to successfully download a file, and that the host of the file has verified that it is working correctly on their end.

Worst case scenario if you still getting it, these things made alot of my files corrupt to

Ram Dead
pc works just fine till you actually copy something and it instant corrupt it , only gotten this once so far on all my pc's.

Hardrive Dying
same thing, copy something if its corrupt, time to do a health check on it, this is quite easy to get older hd's fry.

Isp blarg
Wierd isp behaviour can sometimes make files corrupt when they are 100% downloaded and still miss something , pretty rare nowadays tho.

Try a friends place download burn it on cd or something then copy it might work, but if its ram it will instant corrupt it when its copied ~.~, thinking something on your pc making them corrupt, cant be a virus since you checked that right.

If you struggling to download the client then do you have a friend who can download it and transfer it to you? Not ideal but a workaround all the same.
