So I'm waiting on Comcast to arrive and install an uber 6mb connection. They talked me into a year of sweet pricing to switch from Knology (1mb connection), almost $30.00 less with 10 NFL ticket channels thrown in.

So, where can I bump sliders in preferences to see noticable changes in my SL performance?

It will only go up to 1 Mbit but it's more than you'll ever need.

Remember ingame video streams, more the merrier, but normal stream in SL dont go over 1mbit, personally id rather have to much then to little :p

I dont think you will get the big AHA experience in SL rezzing tho.

And I'm sure LL is correspondingly not interested in sending you more than 1Mbps. 4000 simultaneous 1Mbps outbound streams can get a little pricey ;)

On a more practical basis, it sometimes peaks up there at about 900 kbps but ultimately drops down to sustain at 600 kbps. This is by no means conclusive and is gathered from anecdotal experiences from other Residents, including some who live in SF near LL.

It still rezzes too slow for me, even maxed out (my connexion is more than enough to handle it). Not liquid as I'd like it to be.

Also, sometimes a network speed set higher is worse than a lower setting, if your CPU can't handle it. I know my poor 700MHz maching gags if it gets more that 600KB/s, so I set it to that, and the experience is much smoother.

A superfast internet connection is great but almost no one uploads to the net much faster than 800kbps on a good day. I have a 3m connection but I rarely ever see anything faster than 1m. In fact, a 300kbps download is superfast relatively speaking for the vast majority of internet content. What will help down the road is when everyone else around you has cable internet and your speeds get sucked down. Those with 1m lines will be good to get dialup speeds while 6m lines will still see 1m.
