Ceiling Limit?

Is there a limit to how high one may go?

I know of someone who regularly builds around 650m to avoid lag, but i can't seem to rise above 250-350m. I may have some space-garbage holding me down (god knows how many prims i've sent up there trying to get higher) but i'm curious as to the limits of the Z scale.

Any ideas?

(Also, how can i recover my space garbage without wiping the entire parcel?)

You can build to somewhere around 700m, but you need an additional flying device to assist you in your building. Go get a Tera Warp 2.1 while you can. It will assist immensely.

There is a thread discussing this in detail if you look around. I would be more help, but it's late and I just don't have anything else in me.

The answer is out there and "you can dooooo eeeeeeeet".

Looks like precisely it is 768 m. I entered "777" and other high-end numbers but it kept lopping off.

The sit trick

Here is an easy way to build up to 700ish with no flying assistance.
(btw an anti-push cube is usually all you need to fly high)

Note that while you can't build above 768, you can FLY (with vehicles and devices) much MUCH higher.

but back to building...

1. Rez a cube and stretch it out sideways like a plank.
2. Sit on on.
3. right click on it and hit edit
4. Set the Z position to 50m0 (try higher when you get the hang of it)
5. Your camera may not have followed you correctly, so hit esc twice at this point if you can't see yourself.
6. When you can see yourself, right-click on the plank again and hit create, and rez a cube on it (you'll find you can't just rez a cube in mid air or on yourself).
7. Edit this cube to be a large 10x10x1 flat platform to stand on and get it under you.
8. Stand from your plank and you are ready to build!

Note:

-If you fall repeat steps 1-5 to get back up.

-You can't TP anyone to above 300 or so, they have to "cube sit" up. If you try they will appear at about 300 and fall.

-Things get weird with some scripts as you get higher, if things are just no fun anymore at 700m try building at 500..

This is the problem i've had. My TP script just drops me off around 300m.

As for the scripting, i'd been warned that buidling up high is best for dead prims, so i'll save scripting for ground level.

Some handy height and distance limits:

Sit teleport max distance: 300m (from object's center)

Flight ceiling without modification: Roughly 150m above terrain mesh

No Script Ceiling for most sims: 15m above terrain mesh

Max buildable height: 768m

Max height ANY prim can go, sans attachments: 4096m

Max height for avatars: Unbounded

Thanx Jeffrey! That'll come in handy next time I wonder about height trivia. The noscript ceiling is a lot less than I thought it would be.

Okeydoke, here's another one. You know how sometimes you get really high with a flight accelerator, and then TP somewhere (like by a friend), and you end up much lower? How high is that height above the terrain mesh?

One other max... and probably the one you're noticing Torley... is max "Home" (and possibly TP) height at 256M.

Heresy tells me that someone I know once had an ... ahem ... "exotic discussion" at 1,000,000 m

Took 40 min. to get there.

The Million Meter Club!

Thanks for the digits, Jeffrey. They will be most useful.

I imagined the info was in the forums somewhere, but for the life of me i couldn't imagine where to begin with the keywords.

Thanks for all the help.

Highest I've ever seen before this thread was started was this block some 620m high... but now that the question has been asked, everyone's going to try to make towers going the full 768m.

TheDragonMaster Zander builds skyboxes up at around 4000m. You can rez things up there...and although you can't move them otherwise they 'teleport' down to 768m, you can effectively move things by stretching them and unstretching, with "stretch both sides" turned off.

Please may someone update the height limits now in 1.9.x?

300m TP limit

One can easily set up waystations at 256m intervals to obviate the Teep limit. Have done so, works fine. Single prim platform to land on, and to send one higher.

the 256m height limit on home no longer exists.

LL removed the limit when they introduced P2P
