Hello,

i'm from germany. I downloaded SECOND LIFE and tried to start it, but
every time i tried, SL gave me the following errormessage:

Second Life Crash Logger:
"Second Life appears to have crashed..."

So how to figure out what the problem is?
i would like to give SL a try, but i cannot play :(

You should try this www.omegadrivers.net , their drivers are more suited for SL'use, just remember to uninstall before installing them http://www.drivercleaner.net/

See if that do it for you, might be corrupted cache to.

C:\Documents and Settings\**loginname**\Application Data\SecondLife\cache
On windows , open any folder
tools / folder options / view / show hidden files and folders

Cant wait for 1.7 usefull future to delete this in options before you start game!.

Ok, i tried the omegadrivers a couple of times, with the use of
drivercleaner and without. i rebooted multiple times, but
i still cannot start SECOND LIFE.

Still the same error.

Are all firewalls configured to allow secondlife.exe access and is your video set to 32bit color

Yes, i looked it up and it is set to 32bit.
My Resolution is set to 1280x1024.

And i have no firewall installed on my computer.
But i have to say, my computer is behind a hardware-router.
maybe that could cause the same problems as a firewall?!?

i dont know... all i know is: it still does not work ;)

My system is exhibiting similar issues tonight for some reason. Haven't had any problems
up till today.

My system specs easily exceed the reqs for SL :)

Logged in once or twice, but crashing started pretty quickly. Has become progressively worse over the past hour. Not sure what to make of it yet. . . .

Curious whats causing it. Like I said, no issues at all previous to tonight.

And now, something even more mysterious...

In my case, the grey box "Loading Second Life..." appears for a split-second, then disappears and the game doesn't start at all. No bug reports, no error messages, nothing. My config easily exceeds the game's minimum. What's wrong now?
EDIT: Preview version doesn't start either.
EDIT AGAIN: Reinstalling didn't help.

AND A THIRD EDIT, VERY IMPORTANT!:
Problems were caused by local characters in my Windows username and, thereby, path where Second Life kept its settings. Actually, my profile was named "Dźwiedź" - this is set during Windows user profile creation and CANNOT be changed later! You may change the name displayed, but on your hard disk, path will retain the name it had initially.
Creating a different user profile without Central European letters helped. The game starts up without any problems there.

i dont kno wtf is going on but when i start secondlife, the main screen comes up, then i click connect, and it loads, but when it gets about halfway it will either go back to the main screen or crash, if it goes back to the main screen and i click connect again, it crashes right when i select it. this started happening 2 days ago and i dont kno whats going on, at first i thought it was secondlife, but then i kno alot of people who can still use secondlife and no one else in the forum has the solution to my problem.... someone please help

I'll make sure someone is aware of the login path issue, as far as after connect is pressed thats when its starts talking to the outside world, you could try changing your login localtion to home instead of last location, in preferences > general

If you have a hardware firewall see if you can check the logs and see if its blocking any access on ports 12020-13050

Here is a page with details about the problems at the various stages of login

http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=Technical+Support+FAQ

And here is a page about configuring a firewall if needed

If you haven't yet, try uninstalling and reinstalling Second Life.

Also, be aware that Second Life simply won't run under Windows 95/98/Me.
