Problem starting in secondlife

I registered with secondlife and downloaded the program for windows xp (sp2). The program starts up normally but within seconds it hangs and the top banner informs me that it is not responding. I then have to crash out of the program. This always happens. So far I've not been able to make a single step.

Can anyone help? Please.

haha ive been tryin to fix it for like 2 weeks now... mine freezes practially every time but sometimes i can actually enter pass and name, but then it freezes on verifing protocol...

ive checked my firewall(both of them are open) and hve xp sp2,drivers updated,
11mb connection and all the pc recommended hardware setups.

is there a possibility of getting someone to analyze the startup logs cause i checked em they look like no critical errors were found in both logsi checked...(i know a little c++ so i know what im looking at)

Same problem? 100% CPU

Do you also get 100% CPU usage from SecondLife when this happens? If so, this is happening to me also on my laptop-- it worked fine from my desktop.

yes i do.. about 95% usage.. it is peculiar... i just hope that i dont find that i cant play sl from my laptop! i do everything on my laptop... sad day..

well someone college told me that my ati radeon mobility card might not be supported for secondlife.... if anyine has a mobility card and having problems then plz post it here

Same problem here, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700.

cool.. did catalysr drivers.. custom install.. only the drivers not the control center.

if i installed both i got error... so if anyone uses em just install the drivers

I have tried to download the caytalist drivers but they won't work on my comp i have a Radeon IGP 345M Chip Type: RS200M AGP (0x4337) DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz) Memory Size: 64 MB Adapter String: RADEON IGP 345M. I still can't figure out what i am doing will keep looking hopefully someone can help

I see on the system requirements page that the Radeon 345 DOES NOT work with Second Life.

This makes sense because I log in, but then it crashes at the area where it says "Appearance" on the big gate.

I guess until I get a different computer it will not work??????

I have an HP ze5470us - can the graphics card be replaced?

I have read so much about it, and want it so very badly... my own Second Life!

I am not an expert on computers, but I manage.... Appeared that my videocard was not right, so my daughter gave me a brandnew Nvidia Geforce4 mx 440, 'cause that should do the trick! So I very very happy tried to get in, and now it seems that I need another Via AGP chipset driver.

I found something about it on internet, but I don't dare installing such, as I really do not know what it will do to my computer... I fear for a crash or something, very much!

ps: I am a 48 year old dutch female, so not a young person who knows all about computers. I just want to keep up with everything new, while it fascinates me and I want to be a part of all of it!

Someone here who can advice me, tell me what is best to do ??????

Every time I've seen or heard of Second Life hanging at the logon screen it's been a firewall issue. As a test, disable any software firewalls you have (McAfee, Norton, ZoneAlarm, built-in OS firewall). Some routers and cable modems have additional firewall protection that's almost always configurable. Try setting it to a lower security setting and see if you can get in.

You also may want to try drivers other then ati. Omega drivers are what I use and they have cleared up many many issues i have had in the past with my ATI X1300

I had the same problems it just hung on the regions bit but I found it was my router blocking it all it can also be your internet security settings which need changing to allow SL through good luck I hope this has been some help

What do you mean your router blocking it? Because mine hangs on connectiong to region and it stays on there I've had it on there for just about an hour now its still there.... Anybody know how to fix it? Thanks!
