Game Controllers and Key Commands

I've been trying an experiment. I had a feeling that the Belkin Nostromo SpeedPad n52 would be a good game controller for Second Life. It has a small keypad combined with a scroll wheel, trigger buttons, and a directional pad. A good variety of controls condensed in a small space, and software to assign keystrokes or macros to the inputs. So far I like it, but the biggest issue I'm having is that Second Life does not have enough key commands assigned to basic functions (things like setting your status to away or busy).

First, I'd like to hear if anyone out there has had success using controllers other than the basic keyboard/mouse combo. Share details.

Second, has anyone discovered any "secret" or undocumented key commands? And is there a comprehensive list of key commands somewhere?

I have been using a Nostromo for another game and recently set up a profile for SL. I only have the basic movement, fly/no fly and jump programmed on it but so far I really like it in SL.

i hqve one too, i tried to set it up for movement and building controls, as well as number input cause i use the numbers allot when building. i gave up after a few days cause i was running out of buttons on it and kept having to go back to my kb. i was also having trouble finding an intuitive set up for the keys. would love to try again if someone has a good setup and wants to share :-)

I've been using a joystick successfully for flying vehicals in SL for a while now, but otherwise not so much.

I've always wondered how one of those P5 gloves would mesh with SL...

Still working on a config, jester, but I might post it when it's finished.

When you say you ran out of buttons, is that even after using the shift function? On the n52 that's a lot o' buttons, laddie!

.... i completely forgot about the shift functions lol and yes it has allot of buttons.

but even so, all the numbers, crtl, option (alt for PC users), shift, crtl z, shift x, arrows, home, page up, page down for movement, thats 22 buttons and thats off the top of my head what is needed, its very likely i missed some
oh i did, crtl 3 and 4 for edit and create modes
24... lol i still think there are more

Sounds like you've got a setup that's working for you...how would you feel about exporting and sharing your n52 config file? Might be a good starting point for those of us trying to figure it out.

well i have no problem sharing it , but alot of the binds as stuff especialy for gestures are set up to custom in game commands to other than movement and build binds its probably not going to be much good you have to set the gesture binds to what your using for your triggers, and i actualy over the weekend built a new comp and my complete bind set is on the other hard drive wich is presently not installed but i do have a strip down set with just the basics and my most common gestures but like i said id be happy to share it with those who are intrested

yes to both. i really hope this isnt a 'lets make a product for mac and PC but have them incompatible' kind of thing.

sigh... the mac version wont recognize a .n52 file, so i test exported a profile and it makes a .nss file. unfortunately renaming the .n52 file .nss dosnt work to make it recognize he file. and i have the most up to date drivers. thanks anyway :-\
