Object key question

I was curious if someone could tell me how long an object's key remains the same? Does it change periodically or if a server goes down and comes back up?

Thanks!

It varies.

An avatar's key is good for all time.
Last I checked, attachment keys were good for until the next time you teleport, but this may have changed.
Most object keys are good until the object is deleted.

I think attachment keys also change when you walk between sims.

As an aside, has anyone computationally figured out the maximum number of UUIDs there could be?

Attachment keys only change when you teleport. Any object when it is rezzed is given new keys, (this includes attachments).

When crossing between sims objects are not given new keys. This effects attachments, vehicals and anything else.

Or put another incomprehensible way, ten times more femtometers than there are from here to the Andromeda galaxy. In other words, lots. I love google calculator.

To put this in context... There are enough unique ID's for every person in the entire world to have 53,139,746,803,138,858,160,342,366,817 objects/textures/animations/sounds. I don't think the Lindens will be running out anytime soon.

So that's why my inventory takes so long to load. :p
