since the update my inventory keeps vanishing...at first it was completely empty so i relogged and though most of it came back, there is so much gone still. is this the same as the "image missing from database" bug and will it eventually come back?

If you're actually missing the core inventory folders (Clothing, Objects, Scripts, etc.), please do the following:
1) Inworld, open Help->Report Bug...
2) Title your bug "Missing Inventory Folders" and provide as much information as possible.
3) When you submit your bug, note the email response; it provides an RT# that we can hand to our QA folks to look up your bug specifically.
4) If possible, message an online Linden and give them that RT# to forward to QA. If at all possible, pick a Linden in the Liaisons group.
We'll fix these cases as quickly as we can!
