So, I know the grid went down, all bad, and I know it went up again, yay, all good. But I can't log in at all - SL just shuts itself down when it's about to finish connecting to region. Haven't changed my graphics setup or anything, tried dumping the cache...nuthin. Anyone else having the same? Any tips?

Oh poor thing,

The grid is up. Have you tried closing/restarting SL before relogging again?

Sometimes I get stuck on "connecting to server, the please wait for xxminutes" message only to be returned to the login screen again. Most of the time, restarting helps. Otherwise its usually internet connection related.

I thought it might be...so I rebooted my computer too, checked the connections etc...every other online thing seems to work fine. It's a weird crash, doesn't even get to 'unfreeze' the last scene, just almost finishes loading then *blip* closes. And the crash reporter doesn't come up. Weeiiiird.

Sigh. :(

Try browsing to secondlife://Ahern/128/128/100 to relocate yourself if your client is stuck in some un-space.

Tried it. Tried a couple-o different places (clicked a bunch of snapzillas) to see if the grid was being patchy or something. Same *blip* no warning, no error msg crash. Grrr.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling SL?

You might want to do a physical examination of your computer's fans to verify they aren't covered with dust and are spinning at the proper speed.

No...guess I thought an uninstall was a last resort. Oh well.

And nothing seems to be running hot - other memory-intensive things work, so my SL itself seems to be quacked. I'll re-install I guess.

Thanks for your help, all :)

Huh?! A complete uninstall/reinstall didn't work. Still the same weird, quick crash.

It worked fine yesterday?!

more shots in the dark that have worked for some people:

http://www.drivercleaner.net/ - to get rid of video driver version overlap
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx - to ensure the latest DirectX
http://nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp - to get new drivers (assuming nVidia, for ATI, "omega" drivers are preferred to ATI, but I know less than nothing about that, but these forums do)

Good luck, again.

Thanks, Introvert - directX and drivers are the latest etc, but maybe something weird happened with the drivers.....all by itself. Gotta love computers reconfiguring themselves (?!?). I'll try using the driver cleaner but *yawn* in the morning. Lost too much sleep staring at my frustrating screen. Bleh.

Thanks again.

For the record, the few times i managed to log in for about half a second, i was logged out cause the sim went down. Could it be something I'm wearing has corrupted? Or I've got something corrupted/weird in my inv??? Is that even possible?

*hating my SL-less weekend*

This is a good bit of data; yes, you could have the atachment or inventory of doom. Try Preferences->Network->Clear Cache from the splash screen and quit SL and restart. Failing that, spend US$10 or US$0 (forget what it is these days) and make yourself a new account. If your avatar or inventory is borked, this would get you through the weekend at least.

I've got my fingers crossed for you, because that is the most effective thing I can do from here. :(

Good luck.

Oooooohhh. I have the Inv of doom. Thanks Introvert....a new account works perfectly, and the Lindens are looking in to why a sim kept crashing over and over today - eek, that was me and my....what? Radioactive shoes!?! Something about the account has gone doollaly anyways......

Thanks for your help!! Case closed - or at least passed on into capable Linden hands :) :p
