I had Vista, SL was not great but it worked. FPS was ok, no serious lag
Because of a bad install, my USB ports and smart card reader was not working, so what I did was downgrade to XP because since I had to reinstall everything anyhow, I figured why not. Figured it would make for a better SL.
Now I have serious FPS issues, It seems like as soon as i get someplace with people my fps goes from 17 down to 0.4.
laptop with core 2 duo, intel graphicsmedia accelerator, 3 gigs of ram
Why is this happening?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Yes, I went to the website and downloaded the latest from March.
Is it possible that the video card in tuned into Vista and not XP as far as performance goes?

You said you had Vista. Did you upgrade to Vista using the same computer then revert back to XP on that same computer? Or is this a new computer than came with Vista and you put XP on it? If it's the older computer that once had XP then try to find the driver you used before you got Vista. If it's a new computer the graphics card will also be new since it's onboard and you might have to do some searching for a driver that will work for you with XP. You might be using a Vista optimized driver that doesn't work well with XP.
And, I'm sure you formated before you installed XP. But when you installed XP you probably visited Windows Update a few times and may have gotten a driver from Microsoft for your graphics accelerater..........and it probably is not a real recent driver. Before you install any graphics driver (actually any driver) uninstall the old one first. New drivers installed over old drivers often cause huge problems.

this one? or some other one? http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&DwnldId=12536&lang=engIts from January so I wasnt sure but it specifically says XP and since I dont know anything more about your computer, thats all I gots. When you say downgraded I assume you mean a reformat and new install yea?

Hi,
Thanks for the responses.
It is an Acer Aspire laptop. Came with Vista but the factory install was screwed up. USB and smart card reader didn't work, so instead of reinstalling Vista I decided to go with XP.
Formatted and installed XP.
1.5 ghz 3 gigs ram Core 2 Duo Mobile Intel graphicsmedia accelerator x3100
SL was running not great but ok with Vista. Now my fps with XP is whacked. I get to a place and my fps goes from 18 or so down to 0.4 in less than 5 minutes
Thinking about reinstalling Vista again.

This is basically the same issue I am having. It appears that the Intel GM965 graphics card and SL will not play nice together. Its interesting to hear that you had better performance under Vista. This indicates that there is a potential solution. But Vista is not an option for me right now. I can only hope SL and/or Intel can fix this issue. /111/66/257004/1.htmlYou can get along temporarily by going to the advanced menu and stopping rendering of Simple objects (Advanced/Rendering/Types/Simple). But of course this wipes out half of the prims in SL. Not a good long term solution. EDIT: See updated post on the above referenced thread.

I have one of my machines here running a MB with 965 graphics (rather the capability) I read your post disabled the Nvidia PCIE and rebooted re logged ... damn what a drop 65FPS at home down to 12FPS after the reboot, maybe if possibly affordable a cheap mid range nvidia card. But i was aghast at the difference. I know it doesn't help but the chipset change was dramatic for me.

EDIT: See updated post on the above referenced thread. I turned off advanced rendering simple and the fps jumped. Of course you are right about half the prims being wiped out, but at least for now I can move around until I figure something else out (just have to be careful about walking into walls and falling off buildings) If I have to I'll just reverse it whenever I need the rendering. Thanks

For general use, here's the link to the initial "select your os" screen for the current version of 965 drivers: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2800&lang=eng

Thanks Using full screen mode and dropping to 1024x768 seems to make it work lots better without turning off Simple Rendering.
