Edit Tool - infinite hole

Today my sim Cosy Home crashed and was offline for several hours. I still do not know the reason or has been informed about the sim being online again, but ... okay it is there. (Of course I contacted SL support, but they asked me for the coordinates, shouldn't they know them ... when they get the name of the sim?]

I just wanted to smooth a little peak on a hill by using the edit land tool.

And what happened? A single mouse click produced an almost infinite hole in my hill. It looks terrible. Would you like to see it? Cosy Home (14, 43, 33). Have fun!

Maybe I will plant a flag and make this a memorial.

But seriously ... what is wrong with the sim? I need some help very urgently!

Heya Melina... eep I was just at Cosy Home the other day. I wonder what's up. Looks like it's back up right now (I happen to be horsing around) but for future reference and because of this problem you're having...

SL support (support@secondlife.com that is) is different from asking a Linden Liaison inworld, which is like, a LOT faster hehehe. Just go to FIND and look for an online one and tell them the dilly-o, or if you have probs deciding on who to ask, just go to LIVE HELP which is in the HELP menu and report what's wrong!

I've seen the prob you're describing before, it's some kinda "terrain corruption" if you can't raise it up with the terrain tools, so you will want to mention that, nothing a Linden miracle can't fix. I have fallen into several of these in my Second Lifetime.

Best of hole... I mean hope! :)

Hi Torley,

thanks for your help.

I tried Live Help, but unfortunately only one guy was online and tried to help (I forgot his name). He suggested to wait for a Linden to jump in, but there was no one.

So I made an online bug report.

And besides this I posted this message in the forum.

SL support was only meant to help me with the sim bringing it up again. I have not yet received any information that it is up, instead I got an answer two hours ago, that there are no problems with the sim as it is up and running. Yes ... meanwhile ... there were some rumours ... I heard about it ...

;-)

The problem is that I do not dare to check the function out every minute to not spoil the whole sim. But maybe I will get another email telling me that there is no hole and that the tool is working perfectly. I wouldn't really mind the lack of communication as long as I could continue with my work on the island.

Thanks again, Torley!

If it's a really big/deep hole, just drop a body or two down there and put a warning sign up.

DANGER: Deep-Ass Hole

Hehe ... cool idea ... you know, I have already a haunted graveyard on the island. Both would perfectly complement one another.

The estate owner needs to change the Terrain Raise Limit in the Region/Estate settings.

Okay, maybe I am a bit dumb but:

1) Before the restart we had no problems.

2) Now we get a deep hole when using the tool

3) A deep hole arises because the raise level is set to 0

Ist that correct?

I need some more explanation: who and why has this option been changed? It was not me. Will there be other problems after the restart that I myself will have to fix?

BTW: can anybody tell me what raise level we had before the restart of today in order to set it to its old value?

hehe, cool, I want to see the giant hole :). The lindens should label it with one of those interest icons on the map ;). Btw, does it have a bottom at 0 elevation? or is it really infinite?

And I think the default was 100, but you can set it to anything you want as long as it's higher than your mountain :).

Makes sense to me. Your raise limit says that the land is not allowed to be higher than zero so when you attempt to edit it it sets it to zero.

The raise limit is why the holes are appearing. Why it changed is a mystery to me. I would suggest contacting the concierge to get to the root of the problem.

What Rickard said :) as long as it's set higher than you intend to raise the land it should work.

Thanks, Rickard, no, it is not infinite, it has a botton.

And it is more deep than large, but it spoils the landscape and I am a bit frustrated to raise and smooth this part again.

If 100 was the default, I will try it with this value.

Anyway .. I am not convinced that fixing this issue is not a Linden Lab task.

I am so excited about this new world ... every day new exciting challenges have to be mastered! .... Besides normal work of course ... but this would be dull, wouldn't it?

Okay, raise limit set to 100 ... and it solves the problem .... hopefully none of the other options was changed.

I think I will have to make some hardcopies of my texture settings .... you never know.
