You know I own an island I can't access it, and well you should refund for our time, and charge the asshat that released the self replicating script.

The thing is, if you started hitting these people in the pocket book, maybe we would have less of them trying to take the grid down.

While it is annoying not to be able to login I cant see LL at fault for this, and I also dont recall anyone saying the self-replicating objects were a deliberate attack on the Grid.

It's just as likely some n00b scripter didnt think far enough ahead to realize what would happen when he rez'd his shiny new project... that just makes him an idiot, not a griefer :D

Imagine the look on his (RL) face when after 1 second he had 180 objects around him and even better about 5 seconds later when he was burried by 5500 of them

Bet he wont make the mistake of not including a safety subroutine again

Every time someone says "they should refund our time" I keep thinking that out of 1440 hours in a 30 day month, paying say $200 a month, each hour "block" works out to 14 cents US, I.E. 3 hours downtime for someone who pays for an island would be about 42 cents.

Therefore, with my tier and estimating 3 hours downtime this evening, that's 17 cents. 17 cents I could have spent on... damn near half of a postage stamp! :(

Not that it's a bad idea to compensate us for downtime and all, but just sayin'...

Um multiply that 42 cents by a few hundred thousand people.

Strange. Where I come from, we have 24 hours in the day, so 24*30 = 720 hours per month. That's twice what you're quoting--27 cents per hour! That's enough to mail a postcard and still have 3 cents left over to.... um.... err.... uh.... through in a wishing well.

But I understand your frustration, Charlie. *hugs* Wish I could have been out last night & see everyone. The problem I see here is that this isn't LL's direct fault -- this was a deliberate attack on the grid. And LL's response substantially improved from the last attack, when we were down for 6 hours. This time it was only 2, a definite improvement. Doesn't mean it wasn't two hours too long -- like I said, I miss everyone! (*waves to Charlie & Cerena*)

"Unscheduled Downtime" is an unplanned or unscheduled interruption in Service availability for a period of at least twenty-four (24) hours during which you are unable to access the Service. Unscheduled Downtime is measured from the time the Service is 100% unreachable for a period of at least twenty- four (24) hours until Service is once again restored. The following are excluded from the calculation of Unscheduled Downtime: (i) scheduled maintenance downtime; (ii) problems outside of our Service (upstream providers, or your inbound connection) not affecting 100% loss to our Service; (iii) interruptions or failure of Service caused by you or your representatives (including inaccurate configuration, third-party software, abuse or over-utilization of resources, hacked servers, attacks, exploits, or server hardware failures); and (iv) causes beyond Linden's reasonable control and occurring without Linden's fault or negligence, including natural disasters, wars, terrorist acts, riots or other violent upheaval, governmental restrictions and actions, and performance failures of a third party outside Linden's control."

Five thousand, 100 thousand, not that big a difference. ;)

Or, in layman's terms, only if they decide to turn off the grid intentionally as that clause pretty much covers everything else (except war or the total destruction of earth - which another subsection covers).

Neat, now go look up federal law. This is tantamount to denial of service, as it denied all of us the service we paid for.
