Wow - This really is warped.

So my friend T.A. is having major issues running SL. She has just bought a brand new PC I mean like days old. She gets major choppiness and slow motion etc.

OK so we all know SL requires the mother of all vid card requirements supposedly.

Her system uses PCI Express card from aTI. I also use an ATI PCI Express as PCI Express is becoming industry standard for video cards.

I suggest that she call Linden Labs to get some support.

Micheal told her that PCI Express is not tested for SL and also they have no plans to do such testing. now WTF is that?? Hello?? It's called a primary video card and a main video card manufacturer that most NEW PC's come with these days!!

Why is it so hard to provide customer service for your product and help those that are having a problem??

Frustration, Confusion, and no love for the Lindens

OK so yes i am miss T.A.
I have had my pc for prolly maybe a week, if not alil more. I played SL before on a pc that had an ATI vid card that was a 9600, and ran it with no issues other than the ones that the Lindens create. Now before buying this pc i did my research cause all who know me know that i play this game alot. I was told ATI 9600 or better would work. So now here i am with a ATI Radeon X series vid card , and i am being told it is NOT compatible?!?!?! On the website for SecondLife it reads......
Video/Graphics Card**:
nVidia GeForce FX 5600, GeForce 6600, or better
OR ATI Radeon 9600, X600, or better
So reading that you would asume the X series is safe....... NO?!?!?!
if u read on it then begins to say which Vid cards have and have not been tested......
The following cards have not been tested with Second Life, and compatibility is not certain:
nVidia cards that report as Quadro
ATI cards that report as RADEON IGP or RADEON XPRESS
ATI cards that report as FireGL
ATI cards that report as FireMV

So...... after talking to Lindens, and only being told i was given the wrong info before and that my new pc or sorry my new vid card cannot handle this shit game, bc they have NOT tested the Xseries Vid Cards for ATI....even though they are the NEWER vid cards on the market. I explained to the man i spoke with that i am not the only one to run an Xpress vid card, only for him to say it is pure luck that they dont have issues! Even though the x series is one of the vid cards mentioned to be a compadible vid card, then they contradict by saying that they have not been tested for compatability nor do they plan on doing so. I hate being told one thing, then when its done, told that its not the case....

Is ANYONE else having issues as such. I mean i have lagged before, but this is ridiculous!!!! And the Lindens once again have nothing to say or offer as help. So maybe other ppl out there who understand the frustration and dont just want my money can help......

There's plenty of people with PCI-e cards running SL just fine and the tech support has always been questionable with LL. Seems like the players know more about the game then the creators and they're taking advantage of that. My reasons: the forum ResMODs & Torely Linden.

Anyways we'll need exact specs if we're gonna be able to properly diagnose your buddy's PC.

EDIT: Oh and he wasn't joking about you being lucky to not have issues. ATI doesn't use the OpenGL standards for using OpenGL thus why its a hit or miss with ATI cards and SL. Besides, nVidia is better imo, at least there's no 1 in 3 chance of getting a defective card out of the box.

Well I have a new PC with an ATI Radeon 800GT graphic card though because of the bad lag situation within Second Life I have no idea if the card is working correctly in Second Life.

It works perfectly well in a region where there are no other avatars but when I enter a region with other avatars lags is terrible and crashs! Sort of spoils the whole concept of Second life!

Linden support has blamed my card and my ISP but what annoys me that Second Life worked perfectly well with an ATI Radeon X700 before the last set of updates. I could run it with all the details up with no problems and no lag!

Since the last updates on two different machines one running a NVIDIA and one running a ATI Graphic card have both experienced lag and crashing in areas where there are a lot of avatars.

I really don't think that my ISP has changed anything since the updates so it does point in the direction of the recent updates of Second Life!

I'm also getting really fed up with the Lindens as they constantly blame graphic cards, drivers and ISPs. Some of us in Europe have little choice where are connections go through!

When are they going to start to do something about the fundamental problems with Second Life like getting it to work?

The only suggestion I have is try turning off the avatar vertex in the SL preferences. With the recent set of updates, that has become a problem setting for some causing crashes, slowdowns etc. Especially for ATI cards.
