Intermittent pauses

This just recently started happening and it is quite annoying. Seems like every so often everything just freezes for several seconds and I can't do anything. If I click inside SL a few times, I get an hourglass cursor, and then it comes back and works normally again.

When SL starts responding again, it catches up with all chat messages, etc, all at once. If I was walking when it pauses, when it starts responding again, my avatar is way far away because it kept walking while I had no control.

I have defragged, reinstalled SL, and upgraded my video drivers.

I've had similar problems. :( What happens when you do Ctrl-Shift-2 when it happens? Any strong colors that stand out? Historically, I've had a problem with UpdateGeom lag beating me over the head at some of the worst times. Still happens too, and it's not something I remember from earlier 1.5.xx versions so something may have changed.

Well the problem is that when it happens, I can't hit CTRL-SHIFT-2 because the entire SL window is non-reponsive. As a matter of fact, when this happens, if I click inside the SL window, the title changes to "Second Life - Not Responding", and then back when it starts responding again.
