I can load the gameworld fine, and I can see others moving, talking, etc. The problem is that I can't move myself -- well, I can but it takes a long time for my character to reply, and often he just walks on forever, going through hills and buildings before 'bouncing' back many minutes later. After checking the Tech FAQ here, it seems that my problem may have something to do with me being partially disconnected. I allowed my firewall to accept the client, and I've even tried totally disabling the firewall/virus detecters...still no luck.
My comp specs: 2.4 GHz Pent 4 Intel 512 RAM WinXP with Service Pack 2 Radeon 9600 (with latest drivers) Cable Modem No "packet loss" in game
I've tried setting all graphic options to the min, disabling all sound/video, clear cache, setting cache to max, disabling firewalls, reinstalling, and updating all drivers. Heck, I don't know what I HAVEN'T tried.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Oh and one more thing: I realize that there are a other posts with people with similar issues, and I've tried any and all advice in such threads.
I should also have noted that I'm only new to this 'game', having only started 'playing' it about a week ago. I don't know if pre 1.7 version would have worked for me.
Thanks!

Hello? This is the tech support forum isn't it? Does SL have staff that help those with problems?

Hotline to the Lindins is the forum your looking for. It's on the front menu of the forum. They'll only tell you to file a bug report though, lol. If you read enough of them they start sounding the same.

Try this uninstall ati drivers with drivercleaner"]drivercleanerto be sure you got them all download omega drivers > here< restart pc install using omega drivers, see if that does something for you. Note SL is very very slow the first time you start it, since it will try to download alot of textures, if something is looking grayish/see trough, its not downloaded yet, right now SL is abit slow cause of a update.

Still doesn't work!
11-09-2005 17:56
I have all the latest video drivers, but I don't think that's the issue becuase my PINGs are usually 15,000-25,000!! I would guess it's a connection issue. I have a cable modem and I've tried disabling my firewall many times. No luck.
I use Cox ISP and have NO problems outside this game. For example I can play WoW with no problems.
Please HELP!

Please HELP
11-14-2005 17:31
Come on now, folks, it's been like 2 weeks and only one person tried helpling me (but again, this isn't a graphics card issue, since my pings are 20 to 30k each).
I've been doing emails with the so-called 'tech support' for about two weeks also and gotten not a single piece of useful information.
Here's what's strange: The game actually DID work for the first day after the recent upgrade...but day 2 + it's the same old bs -- but I didn't alter any of my setting! So why did it stop working?
Can anyone HELP me?
Thanks!

Hi Kyeat, Sorry to hear you're having these kinds of problems. I have a few questions about your system/connection: 1) Are you using a router? 2) Are you using a wireless network? 3) What sort of ping times do you get when you try to ping 'userserver.agni.lindenlab.com'? 4) Do you see any improvement after being inworld for a few minutes, just standing there?

help

1.) No router; just a cable modem going into my ethernet card 2.) No, not wireless 3.) I don't know actually how do figure out this. PING rate in game was 30k when I just tried now. But when the patch first went up last week, it was only in the 100's. 4.) No, I've waited for up to an hour while doing other things. Didn't help one bit. In fact, the first 30 seconds seem to be the best. Thanks for any help you can provide. From: Numa Herbst Hi Kyeat, Sorry to hear you're having these kinds of problems. To do a ping, just go to Start > Run..., and in the box type 'CMD' (without the quotes), then hit enter. You'll be presented with a command prompt. At the prompt type 'ping userserver.agni.lindenlab.com' (again without the quotes). The value you're looking for is listed in milliseconds (ms) right after 'time='. Ping will try to hit that server 4 times, and should list 4 values. You may need to disable any firewall that is running to allow ping.exe to access the Internet.

Wow, those are pretty nice pings. Have you tried launching Second Life by going to a specific location, such as: secondlife://Plano/232/216 Maybe there's something freaky going on with your logon location?

yeah

I've tried teleporting to many, many different locations. All are the same. But again, oddly enough last Thursday, right after they put up the new patch I had no problems anywhere whatsoever. But next day and afterward it's just the same old 30k ping story with no help from 'tech support'. From: Numa Herbst Wow, those are pretty nice pings. Hmmm... I really don't see why you're getting 30 second pings inworld - from what I've seen there's really no reason for it. One more thing to try - Log back in, and go to your Preferences (CTRL-P). Click the Network tab, and drag your Maximum Bandwidth slider down to 300 or so. Log out, and log back in.

slider
11-14-2005 18:43
Yes, exactly why there's steam coming out my ears: it doesn't make sense to me either.
Yeah, I've actually tried adjusting the slider from 50 to 1000 and everything in between, but that doesn't seem to work.
Regardless, thanks for you help.

are you wearing any attachments?
11-14-2005 19:17
Since the latest update, I've had several, seemingly random occurances, where when I have my scan-foo attached to my body I can't move at all. If I detach it, i can move again; sometimes when I reattach, the issue remains, other times it does fix it.
Hopefully this can help you out
as a side note: I know this isn't a problem with the scan foo, which is one of my most used tools, because since it's copy, no trans, i have two in inventory. if I change back and forth between both of them when the issue happens, the second one works fine. Yet I have had issues moving with both of them before, lol.
