game freezes at "connecting to region"

This has happened several times now today. I try to log in, and it loads up fine until it reaches the "connecting to region" part. then it completely freezes up and stops responding. I have tried reinstalling the game. I have tried using a program to free up memory. I have tried rebooting. Nothing works.

If it means anything, when I turned on the computer and clicked Second Life, it gave me the "you have successfully installed Second Life" message, when I hadn't just installed it. It has been on my computer for a long while.

Please HELP !

Did you uninstall SL completely before reinstalling it? If not, try that.

I was able to logon fine this morning. Had been in-world for a while and then I locked up. Restarted the game and now I'm freezing at connecting to region.

Here's something that might work...

Go into your cache folder, (usually) located at:
C:\Documents and Settings\[USER NAME]\Application Data\SecondLife\cache
And delete all the files that are there. Then it might load correctly.
