my problem is drop down boxes such as file have blecked out text. now i am well aware of certain actions being blacked out because you are unable to use these particular actions however thats not my issue. i can only read open chat when history is open. even editing myself or putting clothes on mostly everything is black. thankfully i have enough knowledge to know where everything is. I do see said actions (they turn white) when my pointer is on them. it is really more annoying and time consuming then anything. I have asked linden labs, but like we all know who have ever asked them for help they arent helpful.
things i have tried~
completely removing sl from my pc, full virus scan, defragment, history cleanse then re downlaoding sl (failed)
I have tried my husbands account, and my other account all the same issues so (failed)
I have gone to a friends house and logged on under my accounts same issues (failed)
I have gone over my preferences with another friend matching hers exactly (failed)
I have asked every person i know in sl they all tell me to try the things i already have
also my friends account works fine oon my pc so not my POS pc
HELP PLEASE IM VERY ANNOYED!!! I JUST WANT THE SEMI GOOD SL EXPERIENCELIKE EVERYONE ELSE

Obvoiusly is a video card problem. Do you have the latest drivers?
Are you using Linux? Win XP? Win Vista?

ty for a reply i have windows xp, it isnt my video card since on my friends better pc its the same and her account is fine.......... as far as drivers i have no idea =o)

When you removed SL from your computer, did you delete the entire SL data folder (C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\SecondLife)? As well as the entire Programs\SecondLife folder?
The reason why I ask is because it sounds like one of the XUI files or settings has gotten borked - possibly not due to any action on your part - and that would completely reset them.

Well, if you:
> uninstall SL
> check and make sure your Programs\SecondLife folder is gone (should have been removed during uninstall)
> delete the entire SL data folder (C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\SecondLife)
> delete everything you can in your Temp folder
> turn off your DSL or cable modem, if you have one
> turn off your computer
> wait 15 minutes (let all caches empty)
> turn everything back on
> reinstall SL
You SHOULD have a completely clean, fault-free install.

Maybe you set the system font colour to black in preferences?
Are you using a XP Theme? You may have chosen a system font to be shown on a black background!
Failing that.... make sure you thoroughly clean/delete the Second Life folders when you uninstall SL... leaving folders behind, can also leave a corrupted settings file.
