A working solution

* i choosed classic design with vista and disabled the design-service. Don't know if that
matters much but it definitivly safes CPU capabilities. Additionally i deactivated other
unused services

1. get rid of all drivers you have installed before to try to make the game running.
*/ reboot

2. reinstall the ati driver shipping with vista

3. dl two catalyst drivers:

* 5-8_xp-2k_dd_cp_wdm_25203 from ati
( this was working on my xp-system before
( there might be other working xp drivers too
( you are free to try out

* 7-9_vista32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_nonwhql from Guru3D.com

4. extract the 5-8 archive in a some folder

5. Install 7-9 vista driver */ reboot

6. goto device manager open your graphics adapter and choose to update driver.

7. switch to your folder where you extracted 5-8\Driver\2KXP_INF\
choose radeon 9800 pro */ reboot

* do all reboots when asked for
* when installing the xp driver, vista will say something, just ignore it and click proceed
* also the catalyst control center mocks a bit, safely ignore it, it will run anyway and will
work with the xp-driver

good luck

(i'm just thinking about to deinstall the 7-9 stuff ... will try that another time)
