Okay, this is the fourth post I'm making on fixing the damn gamma levels. The first post seems to have vanished, and the other 3 have been completely ignored by Lindens while posts submitted much later have been responded to.
Does this mean you have no plans on fixing this fuck up? That you don't know what I'm talking about? That I'm not typing a language you comprehend? I know it's a pain in the ass to have to deal with customers, but an answer of any sort would be appreciated.
Are you going to fix this soon, or should I be selling off my business in SL? An answer, please. ANY ANSWER. Please.

From reading your previous post, your problem is regarding the gamma levels affecting other windows while running in windowed mode.
The problem is that the gamma control is a feature of the display adapter, so when secondlife changes that it will change it for all of the display, normally when you do that in a game etc you dont notice as your running fullscreen.
Im not sure if its possible for opengl to change gamma and/or brightness/contrast for a single window without hitting performance, which the gamma control does as its a function of the hardware and not software.
But i know what you mean i use gamma of 0.8 and when switching i can be a bit bright in normal windows.

For me it's not just a little bright in normal windows.. It's so bright I have no contrast. No shades of grey at all. And I have to reboot my computer it get it back to normal. That's just unacceptable. I'm not going to continue using a program that screws up my levels every time, or that I have to play too dark to see so I can use other programs without having to reboot.
If this is how they 'fixed' gamma levels, they need to unfix them.

Well that definately sounds like a bug you should report, because everytime i close sl, it resets my gamma level back to normal. I would also check your graphics drivers are upto date, nvidia drivers were updated last week, and ati's were updated on the 7th apr http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.89.htmlhttps://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27

I'm downloading the new nvidia driver now. I really hope it helps. Even if it doesn't fix it for me, thank you, Nathan, for the comments and info! If you aren't already, you should be a Linden.

The "solution" finally offered in the Hotline to Linden is garbage. If I just turn on my PC, then fire up SL, my whole desktop goes faded and white. This is without IE, PSP or anything else running. Idiots.

Just out of curiousity what level of gamma do you have set in sl, i see it a bit brigher at 0.8, and even taking it down to 0.25 i cant get it to fade, it does goes quite white as expected and isnt nice for the desktop.
After checking my graphics control panel while having gamma set i still set the nvidia control panel still set at 1 and moving the guage upto 6 goes make it look very nasty.
So i would suggest going to the properties in the graphics card and seeing if that gamma level is still set to 1
control panel > display > settings > advanced > geforce xxxx > color correction

control panel > display > settings > advanced > geforce xxxx > color correction Nvidia panel gamma at 1, sl at .25 The point is that this wasn't happening before, and SL looked just fine. Now that they have "fixed" the gamma settings in SL, it affects the entire system. I don't believe it is supposed to work this was. I can set the gamma to a similar setting in other apps and not have it bleed out to the desktop or other apps. The lack of Linden response to this, other than finally deciding to blame other apps on the 6th message from Jonquille, is even more troubling than the issue itself. My bug report on this has gone completely without comment by them. If they even tried a pretense at an investigation, I would be less upset. I appreciate your notes on the matter, but they don't seem to be solving the problem.

So, after Robin's response, it seems that the real problem is SL not being the only computer program I use. Should I delete everything else on my computer since it isn't as important as SL? Stop working from my computer? That was a ridiculous response, and it only took them several days to come up with it.
My Nvidia settings are fine. The settings for all other programs are fine, and are the same as they have been since I set them the first time. Only Second Life is screwing it up, so don't tell me to stop using the other programs that aren't screwed up as a resolution.
Useless

Adding my two cents here...I have a Radeon and its doing the same thing to me...gamma bleeds onto everything in the background and its a pain to design clothing now. I can't see any light colors behind the game.
Just sharing my woes as well.
