i use vista, but downloaded the vista version posted here on the forums. I have an integrated intel graphics card, but it has worked with it before and I had no problems.

This is a relatively new computer. When I first installed SL onto it, it had some minor issues but nothing that was really noticable except a bit of lag which I chalked up to the sim being busy and my net connection being slower than the norm

then it stopped letting me log at all. I would log in, get loaded, and it would crash. SL would disappear. It's doing that no matter what I do now.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I'm at a loss. Would it be the graphics card even though I could use it before? I have 1.5g of ram and am doing this with only aim and a notepad going.

Perhaps you can post your system specs?

Try turning off the fancy graphics in vista, I believe if you search the forums, others have the same issue, but from my recolection, thats how they cured it. Another point, the onboard graphics, SL does not support the Intel GC chips, and onboard GC chips for the most part, use shared system memory ram, which is very much slower than dedicated ram.
