Ok, so far so good but now whenever I try to build or upload textures, or sometimes just stay on more than 20 minutes, my connection is stopped, then it restarts. It wouldn't be so bad if I was still able to move in SL. I am able to click on menus, turn around in a circle, but thats it. No walking or flying. LIke I'm stuck in one spot! WTF!!!!

Well you see, it's a new update to SL, and fixes several issues. By not letting you move, it restricts the number of textures you need to load, and therefore increases your FPS. Also, since it prevents you seeing things which may cause stress or otherwise discomfort you, it makes your SL experience much more relaxed.
Or it could be yet another bug! _____________________

LOL!!! Best answer I've had so far. Sounds like SL is having trouble negotiating routers (even with the ports opened). Now I'm going to try without the router & see what happens. But still, for those of us with 2-4 computers at home, shouldnt router negotiation be a priority here?
Must be a conspiracy- I got hooked during 1.6. So they "upgrade" to 1.7.XX just to piss me off ![]() |

I've noticed that the only time it seems that you can't 'move around' anymore is when the Sim's crashed and your client is the only thing that's actually working. It might just be the sim you're in. I know I had Abbott's do that to me like 3 times last weekend.

Sounds like you are losing connection with the server. What is your internet connection speed? Are you running through a router? Have you tried connecting to SL with anything with the name Norton's turned off to see if it makes a difference? Are you on a wireless connection and have you tried wiring it straight to see if that makes a difference?

Have you tried connecting to SL with anything with the name Norton's turned off to see if it makes a difference? Are you on a wireless connection and have you tried wiring it straight to see if that makes a difference? * Ok here's the speed as given by Bandwidthplace.com: Speed 2.4 megabits per second Communications 2.4 megabits per second Storage 287 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 3.6 seconds Subjective rating Great Explain results Info Date & time Thursday, November 10, 12:42PM* Test type IDT4 Free Connection type Cable Region Pennsylvania Data size 1024KB I couldn't find it listed on Adelphia's website. They just increased the speed about 6 months ago too. * Yea, it was thru a router, with the necessary ports opened * Nothing Norton's on this comp. No Window's Firewall either. * No wireless. * Have just connected the modem straight to the PC. It seems to disconnect still, but then re-establishes a connection rather than just leaving me stuck. And there is a message in Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer, Something about losing contact with DHCP server. So was this the problem? Or just Windows losing the connection ? |
