voice - do we need it?

Do we really need the "voice" on Second Life? By speaking, doesn't that make Second Life real life? Isn't Second Life pure escapism, a chance to be someone else or the person you want to be? If you want to be you with your voice there are bars, clubs, weight watcher groups, online chat rooms to use.

Not really a technical issue, but like Neva's Orgy Room at least people talk in here.

most people I know use teamspeak and the other ones. SL didn't need it. All the people i interact with before still type. I listen to winamp when i play (build), i don't really want to turn it down to hear people anyway. i think it's kind of a pointless feature. It's good for messing with soundboards though and pissing people off.

As crude as this may sound I believe it's true.

The biggest draw for voice in SL is the cybersex........no hands on the keyboard to type all those "ohhhhhhhhhs" and "pant pant pants". Hands are free of 'more important' stuff.

The above and griefing are about the only reasons for voice...........in my opinion.

Not at all.. we dont need anymore threads supporting a topic that apparently isnt even being noticed. Thank you so much for policing the forum and identifying un-needed points of view and perspective.

I have learned NEVER to download optional versions, though no doubt I will have no choice one day soon.

I have not noticed any difference in interactions between people since voice went in. Perhaps I am just missing something? However, having said that, I have had a few friends "pressure" me to download the version so that we can talk. To date I have resisted that pressure & am beginning to think that they are regretting downloading that version now. I will wait until I have no choice but even then I'm pretty sure that I will only be using voice with a select number of individuals.

What I have noticed is the worst week ever in terms of stability since I joined SL. Coincidence? Who knows? My bet is that even LL can't be sure - and if they are you can be sure they won't tell us!

Does SL need voice ? Personally I don't think so. Many of my friends in here have English as a second language, and though they cannot speak it very well are adept enough to communicate via written chat. The introduction of voice offers them very little besides being able to speak to others who know their language. This seems divisive to me.
