Design a script to be run on an avatar and do the following.

When installed write 1 line to chat and then check the chat history to ensure that the line has been recieved. Recipt means that the avatar is NOT a copybot. There my be a better way to identify if the avarar is a copybot but that's my first thought ... utilise a known weakness of copybots to attack.

If the avatar is a copybot distribute all it's posessions at random to nearby avatars then shut the copybot down.

Otherwise set up a timer event which when triggered looks for avatars in the immediate area and sends them a message. The recipiant will respond with an "I am a carrier" message if infected. If no suce response is recieved then the script will copy itself to the non responding avatar. Recipt by a carrier of such a message will reset the carrier's own broadcast event clock.

Rational ... will spread throughout the community and disable copybots but do no harm to other avatars.

Since copybot users are likely to delete the virus also include code to report uninfected avatars after a given date (give the virus time to spread). Additionally the script should contain code which ensures.
1) That it can not be modified (do not want the possibility of anyone but LL generating a virus)
2) Keep a trace log of the infections ... multiple infections indicates either a copybot or a copybot user
3) Prevent anyone but LL from initalising such a virus.

Other strategies must exist.

What is a copybot? I just logged into my land tonight, and my chat was spammed with 'copybot security system' 'ingore' messages. My neighbour has her build shut down with a notice up saying 'closed thanks to copybot'. lm getting lockout red msgs flying round land in my area...total disaster area from once one of the most beautiful areas in SL that l've found. Aside from harrassment from individuals abusing build privs on peoples land in the last couple of weeks, including mine. Logged in last week to find all my settings had been changed to allow anyone to build on land. Reported to LL and no reply. Shonky is hardly the word!

All you'd have to do is jumper out the CopyBot code that makes it give its inventory to others, or make it listen only to one particular avatar for its commands. A trivial, 30 second fix.

To the other poster, if their shop is closed, it makes you wonder why they're still spamming with the CopyBot Remover. It's a ToS violation to spam like that, and Lindens have been agressively pursuing that issue. They don't work anyway - only version 1.0 of the CopyBot responds to the !quit message. No subsequent version does.
