I have always had the issue of certain ground textures not loading. Leaving me with that ugly, blotched "sea floor" texture. My system is not cutting edge, but I don't have any other issues with any other textures. I've tried different prefernces and specifiaclly trying from high-low rez on the land texures themselves. Niether setting seems to make a difference as to what loads. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. Does anyone know anything I can do, or try, to improve the performance here? Via settings at least. I am upgrading my system soon, but I don't think that's an issue. Not when every other texture loads fine. System: AMD Athlon 1.47GHz (yes, I know. Ancient) 512MB SyncDRAM GeForce 5500FX oc 256MB DDR AGP 8x/4x Cable modem through a 10/100 Ethernet. Adelphia Cable. Thanks for any help. ~Jessy

There is a known problem with NVidia drivers...

If you are using an 80-series Forceware driver, and you have avatar rendering set to "bumpmapped and cloth", the ground textures will not rez properly. To fix the problem, you can either change your avatar rendering type to either "normal" or "bumpmapped" and relog, or upgrade to a 90-series driver. (The 90-series drivers, however, are SLOWER -- lower frame rate -- for some SL users; it seems to depend on the CPU and video card you have.)

"bumpmapped" and "bumpmapped and cloth" are resticted to me. ie, they are greyed out and unselectable. ~Jessy

You're not alone here Jessica, my system's only a few weeks old and fairly high spec'd yet I still see this problem. It only seems to affect certain places and usually only after a teleport. The texture will rez eventually but I've had to wait in excess of 15 minutes in some instances. I don't pretend to know enough to suggest a cause but I'll let you know if I find anything Regards Ash

Me too - for months now

Same here - I've had this problem for months.
A couple solutions...
1. I noticed that, after several hours (days even) of the land textures not rezzing, they suddenly appear ALMOST IMMEDIATELY after submitting a bug report. Makes me think Big FIC is watching me, heh.
2. Opening the Estate/Land window, click the Land Textures tab and notice it's the 256x256 size textures that aren't loading. Leave that window open and log off/on again. That works about 50% of the time.

I think that might be true for the case where the ground texture isn't loading at all, but that "ugly sea floor texture" is a real ground texture, it's the lowest level texture for most of the new Linden sims. Even the ones where no portion of the ground is low enough to display it. The problem is that for some reason, unless ALL ground textures are loaded - including the "base" textures that don't actually matter - only the lowest level ground texture is ever displayed. Linden Labs should either (a) try and display the bloody ground textures even if there are missing textures, or (b) at least REPLACE the "ugly sea floor" texture with a duplicate of the lowest grass texture for all sims that have no part of the ground below the minimum level-1 altitude. From: Ashmuel Gould The texture will rez eventually but I've had to wait in excess of 15 minutes in some instances. I've had it still fail to load after an hour.
