Sometimes when I try to click either to open a door, or to purchase something, I crash constantly! I never had problems like this before but now I do! I haven't made any changes other than the updates I get from time to time to upgrade a new version of SL.

Does anyone know why I keep crashing and have any advice on what I need to do to fix this?

Thanks!

Hi Thalia,

When was the last time you updated your video card drivers, this may be your issue. What video card do you have?

i'm having the same problem and my video card is up to date. i think there is some glitch with HUD's. i noticed that when i use them i crash more frequently. today it was just ridiculous though. i crashed at least once every 5 minutes. now, later in the day, i can't log on at all. it's like it just won't connect. i'm going to reinstall in a few, we'll see if that helps, if not, i'll be posting here again.

Just wanted to post that in our records, we DO have a bug registered for complex HUDs causing crashing when clicked upon--there should be a fix for this soon. Glad you mentioned it, Beatrix. A keyword like this can make a world of difference.

Please make sure you are sending in your Crash Reports via PREFERENCES > GENERAL tab, set it to Always Send.

Any further bugs will be dealt with as they come up!

I'm having sort of the same problem, though I honestly don't have any complex HUDs attached at all. Just two that I've been using since before the update. I'll try unattaching them sometime to see if it will solve the issue. Here's what I've noted so far:

If I don't turn off the Object-Object Occlusion option from the Debug menu, I crash a -lot-.
If I turn it off, I crash less often. -However-:
If I right-click on objects to either edit them or purchase something or otherwise just right click on something for any reason at all, I crash. Every time.

This severely limits what I can do in SL almost to the point of being in-game being meaningless. I can't edit objects, can't purchase things, can't do -anything- that requires me to right-click on an object, because if I do, I'll crash each time.

Thalia: I see you updated your graphics card, and you do seem to be crashing in the nVidia drivers. I'd suggest these steps:

1) First, turn off your antivirus temporarily! This is very important. Antivirus protects important system files; installing graphics drivers overwrites important system files. Leaving antivirus enabled while updating drivers may result in driver corruption.
2) Next, go to the Windows Control Panel, open the Add/Remove Programs utility. If there's an entry for "nVidia Display Drivers", uninstall it.
3) You will likely have to reboot your computer. Make sure antivirus is still disabled when you return to Windows.
4) Visit the website for your graphics card manufacturer ( http://www.nvidia.com ), and download and install the latest Graphics Driver release.
5) Once your computer has installed the drivers and rebooted, you can turn antivirus back on, and make any display adjustments (such as increasing resolution).

Beatrix: One thing I notice is you're using a Radeon 9000; that's the slowest Radeon we work with. I assume you've gone through our Preferences and turned all graphics options off or down?

Lilith: Your graphics drivers appear to be from 2003, and you don't have XP Service Pack 2 installed. I'd suggest updating both of those:
