I'm having all sorts of trouble running SL with Vista 64 and an nVidia 8800 Ultra. The new 175.16 driver won't run SL at all -- I tried the RC and the default viewer, no luck. Under 169, I get frequent crashes. What do you all use? Should I run in compatibility mode?
Should I just use my XP installation (I can dual-boot)? If I do that, do I need to download different drivers for my XP installation?

The problem I've heard with Vista 64 is getting compatable drivers. Actually, I think ATI is slightly ahead of nVidia on this one. I have Vista 32 so I can really help you there, but I know the question has been asked before and some have found the solution...........so hang in there. Someone will come along and help you out.
On dual booting to XP. I would look for drivers that specifically state they are for XP. When I go to nVidia to check for drivers I put in the OS I'm using and only take from the list that my search comes up with. So, just search for XP..........and use the driver from that list.

IMHO, the 175 drivers bite (for at least 64, anyways). Try to get the 169 ones -- they should be in nVidia's archive. I always keep a couple of versions back from current, myself. And remember to run Driver Sweeper or Driver Cleaner between uninstall and reinstall of drivers.

Here's where the archive is: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-usPick your card and OS as usual. The 169 drivers are December 2007 Driver Sweeper is here: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/Brief how to use: Uninstall existing drivers via add/remove programs Reboot Hit "Cancel" on the ZOMGZ NEW HARDWEARS when it pops up Run driver sweeper: *only* select "NVIDIA - Display" Click the arrow to move it to the right pane, then click the broom to sweep Install the other drivers in the usual way. nVidia drivers don't aways uninstall all the way, and Windows has a habit of not wanting to replace newer files with older ones, which is why I recommend using driver sweeper in between version changes.
