Can anyone please tell me of a place in Northern Vermont (say, Montpelier, Morrisville or Stowe) where I can rent access to a computer for a few hours that will let me download the SL client and go inworld?

oooh bummerama - I don't know of any places that rent computer time that have the capabilities to run SL. Good luck!
