I didn't know where to post this and I tried to search all over for info, but if you edit hair like the axis and stretching, is here a way to revert it back? I work with 3dsmax and maya and a few other programs, but I am really confused on in game edit hair function. I don't like resizing my head or changing my look so I am just curious if there's:

-A way to revert the hair (mesh) back to it's original form if you change it's axis, stretching etc? I 50/50 seem to be on the actual correct axis when I look in game.

-Is there a recommend size maybe to the whole model scaling that works best with hair? Maybe being 6'0 female in game doesn't help since I scaled my head up a little. Unsure. I did make my avatar real close to my own look I don't want to change that, it's the purpose I was here for me.

Sorry posting in here and I did do a search. I'm from Japan so sorry the english mistakes. Hard to find things in search sometimes because of this. I just need some help please. Real confused.

Thank you

Do you mean the hair on your AV or Prim hair. Either way it is easy. If you're talking about in Appearance mode, you can save your current hair, then experiment and then drop the old hair on your av when you want to go back. When you save a hair style, it will be in your clothing folder.

If it's prim hair and you bought it, if it's copyable, just create a copy before you experiment. Right click on it and then select copy and then paste by right clicking on the folder it is in and selecting paste. If it's not copyable, you would have to buy another copy to get it back to what it was. If you made it, right click on all parts and select more and then take copy. There will be a copy in your inventory.

I apologize if this is not what you meant or too basic.

The most successful software company in the world does a piss-poor job on all these points. Particularly the first three. Why do you expect Linden Labs to do any better?

no it's helpful, thank you. You actually answered in your second part. Hmm, so is it ever possible to get hair perfect? Some hair I'm buying I have to edit the "appearance hair" because it's not filling out with the hair I get. Really frustrating at times. especially around the back of the neck/lower head, without it clipping too much with the hair I buy.

Oh good, I'm glad I could help. Good luck being beautiful in SL!

From my experience, most folks have a head size ranging from 50 to 60. As for the rest of the dimensions, keeping them mostly within 50 to 70 works (brow and cheeks don't matter). For the styles I make, a good size is 50 to 60 and the head length should be 55 to 65. And making the forehead a reasonable size is helpful too. I think the Egg shape of the head is alittle higher so maybe 60 to 80 or something.

I've had to adapt my head shape numerous times since I make hair. My head used to be 80 size, got too many requests to scale hair down (Heehee). I think I've got the median finally, but it's still not a guaranteed fit. Everyone has different head shapes, so finding the universal fit isn't really possible. It helps if people can edit hair themselves.

A trick I learned is if you're editing a copyable wig and you forget to make a back up, you can still copy that wig while wearing it -- don't detach cuz it saves the changes -- and paste it in the folder. The copy will retain the look it had before it was edited. While the copy still worn, will have the changes made to it.

Also use Undo in the Edit menu or pressing Ctrl+Z. It will undo the last move ... but I'm not sure if it works after one edits, closes edit, then opens edit again. And the best axis to use is World axis. And when stretching, use the "stretch both sides" for an even distribution. Also use a pose stand to keep the av still.

Sorry, if it's too much infomation. :p

Thanks for the info so much too! Yeah, mines close to 80 and high in the long cause i couldnt get my real look well with the same old same head shape i saw. I would like to lower everything like scale my whole self down a little smaller but it took me like 6 hours to get my look perfect so that it is almos photorealistic, so unsure how I would redistribute that all down to a smaller 55-56 height then scale it all to match exactly what it is but smaller.

Every have this problem? I just don't want to lose my look. I'd be playing with the sliders for months if I did it wrong.

I've been here for a year now and I still tweak my avatar every now and then. I had made my av big too, becuz I liked to zoom out and still see her clearly. But I've scaled it down from 100 to a 65 height now.

What I did along the way is whenever I edit my avatar, I immediately use the "Save As" option. And I give the shape a new name. Then I edit it with no worries, cuz when I saved it as a new shape name, the original one is still there. For awhile I had shapes named MayBody, AprilBody, April2Body, etc. And if I didn't like the changes I made to the MayBody, I could use the older body shapes.

I kept them all in one folder for easier finding and to track my progress. I recently cleaned out the older copies cuz I never went back to them anymore. But you can do that, make back up copies, so you don't have to worry about losing what you originally had.

I wonder if i should even bother resizing it. it looks fine most people are right around my size I'm just tall and the tall boots. hmm. I'm confused but appreciate the posts. I have my look perfect, so I wouldnt want to change it just scale it down but I fear losing the likeness when redoing it. It's like drawing the same picture twice or signatures... ya know?
