Hi I've been trying to log in for the first time but I can't, it gets to the "Waiting for region handshake part" and then stops and tells me "login packet never received by login server" and I tried everything on the support page, including disconnecting from the modem and plugging the net directly into the computer. I also tried logging into the Ahem welcome area instead of "my home" but that didn't work either.

No end in sight to crashes/lag/inability to log in?
05-29-2006 15:50
OK this is my second post, only at the time of the first post I was only experiencing almost constant crashing and I DO send crash reports. Now when I am able to stay on SL for more than a few minutes, I get very bad lagging and last night I couldn't log in forever. I uninstalled SL (I saw someone refer to that, Torley maybe) and reinstalled it. After doing that I was able to log in but still crash constantly and I get the same message when I try to relog as others have posted, "your account will not be available until ##:##:## Pacific time." None of this started until I downloaded the updates and before anyone throws it out again, it is not my computer. How can it be my computer or hers or his or theirs when so many of us are experiencing this problem? Several of my friends on SL are having the same issues, but they haven't posted about it. So, what can we do or what is being done about it?

Thanks for your timely response to this matter.

Unable To Fully Log-In To SL
05-29-2006 16:07
For the past month or two I've been unable to login to Second Life for more than a minute. Even recently after purchasing a brand new computer I've been unable to fully login. Alright, here's how my usual attempt to get into Second Life goes down:

Start Up Second Life
Click "Connect"
Second Life begins logging
Second Life says it is loading clothing and I will still be able to play

After that the game is frozen, SOMETIMES it will actually get through alittle and I'll recieve some messages but after that, I'll either see my avatar falling into some endless abyss or someother strange stuff. Here's a screenshot I took of this today:

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/4941/secondlifescreenshot1zl.png

And this happens EVERYTIME I attempt a login to SL anddddd has been for a long time.

I've tried to fix it, but nothings worked. I've tried reinstalling Second Life, updating my video card/driver, enabling it through my firewall, turning off the firewall completely to see if it would go through, you name it and I've probably attempted it.

Is there anything you guys can do? This is driving me crazy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. :)

Edit: Strange, late last night I was able to login fully for about an hour. After that it crashed and when I restarted Second Life it wouldn't fully login. What a tease! :\

Unbelievably Unacceptable
05-29-2006 20:11
I have seen many people post about the freezes since the update on Wednesday and have been experiencing them myself. This is very oboiusly a bug and should have been addressed by now. I don know about anyone else but I pay LL over 400 USD a month for the privelge of Freezing and my machine locking up and being unable to enjoy the experience.

Seems as though the platform was better in 1.6 when I started than now. At least the lag was better.

even with cahce cleared and rebooting the client is freezing on logging in. This is not the first time since the upgrade to 1.10 this has happenned adn it is getting worse. and using a third party testing site I am not having measurable packet loss or inordinately long ping times. Also getting the mesage after a long wait about my account being hung up loging me out still.

Merged posts and moved to Technical Issues so we can keep a better eye on what's going on, and fellow Residents can reply with their experiences.

At the time around these posts, I believe there were irregular login problems which should be resolved now.

When this type of "login stall" thing happens, SL's display may go white and appear to freeze. :\ You may have noticed upon logging in normally, there is a message which says "Logging in. Second Life may appear to be frozen. Please wait." just stay in the login queue, even if it takes awhile. It'll usually get you through, or an error message will come up.

However, if this is still happening on a constant basis and you notice others are able to login fine but you aren't:

* If you find you're freezing then SL crashes, please make sure to send us Crash Reports. In PREFERENCES > GENERAL you can set CRASH REPORTS to "Always send". If there are new problems post-1.10 with this, we'll want to fix them. :)

* If you get the "Your account will not be available..." message, that's because your "presence" (online status) is still inworld. Usually, if you wait a few minutes, this should go away. If it stays stuck for over half an hour or something unusual like that, please email me (torley@lindenlab.com) about it and let me know the last region you were in, too. You can find some past matches on this by searching the forums for "presence".

* You can always contact Support for more help. Your patience and info is really appreciated. We'll want to find common patterns and sort things out.

I have had some unusual freezes and crashes myself. I've sent in my crash logs :) and I'll be posting as I find out more. If there are new bugs which came up, expect fixes to appear in Announcements & News. There'll be another update to Second Life tomorrow and more to come, so keep watching!

protocol/log in problems
05-31-2006 10:02
Ok I had zone alarm installed and it wasn't letting me log in and i deleted it and went into the task manager and disabled the *isafeservice* from zone alarm. I've been logging in with no problem. However, now this am I'm trying to log in and the same problem is happening. It gets to "verifying protocol version" and it stops for a min or two. then i get the pop up that says the service may be unavailable. So, protocol is a network problem yes? so if i had it fixed once, why am i having a problem again? what can I do to fix this? i disabled all on start up so none of the zone alarm stuff is even loading. I rebooted i deleted and reinstalled sl I can't get by this protocol verification thing.

someone help!

Yerp, I'm having problems logging in too..However, this one sounds abit more stranger..

I can launch the SL client fine, when I try to log in, it gets to 'Verifying Protocol Version' I then look down to my task bar, to find another SL, this time it is the INFO box..This has never happened before..

The INFO box says it is Verifying Message Template..Then it says Resending on Timeout..It does this 4-5 times, then SL says that it is unable to connect and that SL may be down..

Hope you can help!

Michelle: Your crash log indicates your graphics drivers are from 2004. Please update them at ATI.com.

Alex: It specifically sounds like you need to reconfigure either your network, or any security software on your PC. Please follow these steps.

Chase: It seems you don't send crash logs, so I have no information to work with. As a Concierge customer, I assume of course that you've contacted us already via email?

Dmitri: No crash logs from you either. It'd help to know where the login process stops and what error you receive.

DigiKatt, Christopher: "Verifying Protocol" is always a firewall problem on your end. Find out more.

I dont even get a chance to freeze or lock up. I cant even get the client login screen up from the shortcut or the programs files. Nothing is working. All was working just fine before the update. I have rebooted, I have checked everything on my end. Not sure what has happened, but it doesnt seem good :(

Just an update: I rebooted for a 3rd time, was able to get the login screen up. I did find that I did need a graphics update which I am in the process of updating at the moment. If anything else occurs, will definately let you know. :)
