Are you using a wireless network connection?

If not, you may either have your bandwidth settings too high (rare, but possible), or, you may be having a connection issue with your provider.
Try in either case:

#1 make sure your router/bridge has the latest and greatest firmware.. do some googling to check for possible issues with your router/bridge. (you should keep this up to date anyway)

#2 check and upgrade the firmware / drivers for your network card.

#3 reboot your router/bridge & modem.

(for wireless routers / bridges)
#4 change the channel on your wireless connection, if its an option, change the frequency. (haven't seen that option yet, but I've been told it exists) if a near by neighbor also has a wireless network or other device that uses the same frequency ranges, they may be causing interference.
