Ok, now I will be getting a new laptop with that graphics card and I want to make sure it will run SL, but...
after a quick check of the cards required
NVIDIA Graphics cards
6000 Series:
6600, 6700, 6800
7000 Series:
7600, 7800, 7900
8000 Series:
8500, 8600, 8800
the 8700 isnt listed
So my question is then: was it simply left out or does it not work with SL?
If it doesnt work I will need to search for a new one.

I beleive the specific cards under the series are just card that LL has tested and know will work. Many cards not listed will work on SL...........but LL has not tested them. When you think about all the possible video cards people could put in their computers it's a little unrealistic to think that any company could test them all.
The 8700M will most likely work.

I just replaced my ati card (X1650Pro) with a NVIDIA 7300 GT (7000 series) but not listed by LindenLab and it works very well ! So as Peggy, I think Linden has not tested all. Anyway, go with Nvidia for sure.

Almost all the GeoForce nVidia cards will work with SL, some better than others. Those with a M suffix are welded chips on the MB and share system memory, classed as Mobile (Laptop) low power usage models.
nVidia tend to work better due to their OpenGL drivers.

nVidia tend to work better due to their OpenGL drivers. The 8700M uses dedicated GDDR3 over a 128 bit memory bus. It may not have 512MB dedicated, can't tell that without looking at it, but it has at least some. |
