Hi Sir/Ma'am,

I recently installed the latest version of SL on my Win XP terminal. What I don't get is why after I restart my computer, the whole installation of SL disappears. Could anyone suggest to me why this might be so (e.g. if there is any virus that specifically infects SL files or sth? Strangely enough though, when I re-install the program, it remembers all my saved info. What is going on?

Run a virus scan, spyware scan and malware scan. Uninstall SL again. Take your computer off line and start it in safe mode, then do a system restore.......use a restore point that you are sure is before you started having this problem. Restart your computer And then go back to system restore and turn off your system restore.........restart, and go back again and turn the restore back on. You can put your computer back online at this point. The do a disk clean up.........or better yet use a third party utility like "C Cleaner". Then defrag your hard drive. After all that go back to SL's website and download the client again...........don't run it, save it to your hard drive. Scan the download with yoiur AV software. Assuming the file is clean, reinstall it again.

Hope that helps you.........it's not anything to do with SL client or the servers. Your machine is causing the problem. And the reason all your settings and preferrences are "remembered" by your computer is that those are saved on Linden Labs servers.....not your computer.

Good luck.

terminal, as in amachine that depend of a domain server? if yes its most likely that the configuration get overwritten at each reboot by the server.

The smart thing to do would probably be to leave the POS uninstalled..

My problem is not with the config; it is with the program files, which keep mysteriously uninstalling themselves.

I tried defragging my com and re-installing SL. It worked ... for a few days ... and now it's uninstalled itself again. All the accounts on my computer are admin accts, so I login as administrator. I use Win XP Home Ed. But I find it strange that only SL keeps uninstalling itself; Granado Espada doesn't do such things. But I find it even stranger that My user settings don't disappear along with everything else.

Anyone care to give me a tip?

NOTE: When I say disappear, I really mean completely kaazap! Gone! Like it never existed; What I am afraid is that it has become a phantom installation that takes up space but produces no accessible output. I don't want to install multiple copies of SL and have each taking up alot of processor space.

Is this a networked system on say…an office pc? Or is this your home pc and you/re just confusing me with your lingo? I am easily confused.
I’ve had issues with roaming profiles, where the My Documents folders are located on a virtual server and not my workstations hard drive. SL really doesn’t like that. But I did get it to work…for awhile. :o

The only thing I canthink of is your harddrive might be developing defects in the FAT. But if that were the case you'd bew seeing many other problems as well. (such as slow downs, or freezes for a minute or so while the mouse stil works, sometimes being unable to boot, etc.)
