I used to have this problem with SL and Jedi Academy single-player. After I replace my motherboard, both worked perfectly.

That's not to say your motherboard is necessarily at fault; it could be something else. If you provide some system specs, it might help some more knowledgeable forum-goers track down a possible cause.

This is, in our experience, unfortunately always a hardware issue.

The majority of the time tied to a failing or underpowered (for your computer) power supply.

If you've reseated all your PCI, AGP cards memory etc, and it's still occuring, I'd start looking at your power supply and/or the colling of your system.

However, if you've recently upgraded your system, especially the graphics card and you originally had an onboard graphics chip you were replacing, it's most likely that you need a new, higher wattage, power supply.

Yup, it's almost certainly power. What kind of video card do you have? What make and model of power supply do you have? What wattage does the power supply claim to be? What amperage does it list on the +12V rail?

I recommend getting a PSU made by Antec or Enermax, with at least 15A on the +12V rail, more if you have a fast CPU and GPU.

I used to have a problem with semi-random resets on my PC. Turned out to be the motherboard.

I wibbled about it for a long time because it only used to happen when I did certain things. At first it only happened sometimes when doing video capture in Adobe Premiere. Then it started to happen sometimes when winamp changed tracks. Then it just started happening every hour or so at which point I resolved to fix it! I'd taken every peripheral out of the PC and disabled everything on the motherboard I didn't need and it was still happening. I concluded it was the video card or motherboard and since the mobo was cheaper to replace I changed that for a nice new DFI nForce2 board and happily I've been 100% stable since (sorry, my computer has been 100% stable! :).
