Hangs at "connecting to region"

I've not been able to connect since the recent update.

I just built a new PC, but that's not the problem. I went back to my old PC and it does the exact same thing, at "connecting to region," it just stops. I've let it sit there for 15 minutes.

I run Windows 2000 on both systems. Both systems meet or exceed the requirements.

I currently have it set to take me home (Hallasan) at start, but the only way I can get ANYWHERE is to manually type in a region name. I've been typing in Wetheral, but I get a message something to the effect of "due to server error you're being transported to a nearby region." When I do get there, nothing appears but the horizon. No avatars or objects show up, and I can't move.

Nothing has changed on my original system except the SL update. What's going on?

Have you tried porting to different locations by looking them up in the Search menu?

It sounds like the sim that used to be your home might be gone? That's what the "transported to a nearby region" message means; SL can't port you there because the sim's offline.

Also, try disabling that option that forces you to start at your home location all the time. I didn't even know about that feature. I had a friend who always logged in at this one store (uh, often not fully dressed), and she never understood why.

Hmmm, what do you know? It's working again!

I've been trying allll day to get logged on. I finally gave up, went out for some food, and when I came back, voila! It's working!

I have no idea what the problem was. I'm pretty new, so I didn't know if this was a usual situation, or what. I checked the status page and the blog but there's was no mention of any problems. So who knows? And now that I think about it, WHO CARES? It's working!

Wildefire - reearch - No I was stuck before even getting into the world. The few times I did get in, there was nothing there, and the search didn't work. It was very odd.

re: start location - Yeah, it's very helpful to set the start point at an easily rezzable place. Until recently, I had it set to return to my last location, which was no fun at all when "my last location" had crashed my damn machine!

Sometimes I have that problem if I'm trying to teleport into a busy sim. I don't know much about servers and whatnot, but I guess the server has so much load there's trouble accepting a new person? Not sure... but glad your problem was resolved
