Hey
I'm suffering 50-70% packet loss, so my bandwidth in SL is about 20, and the world seems to take forever to load... and I'm at a loss for what to do. I've been in the support wiki and opened the ports in my router (I opened them before I ran SL, as well). I also tried turning the router's firewall off. I usually run Zone Alarm, but I've tried that turned off also. WinMTR shows packet loss of 5 in my ISP, is that a problem?
Can somebody give me some advice?

My ping sim is about 200, as is my ping user.

(I'm on Tiscali, btw... which might explain why this is all happening... if you've read http://www.3dvelocity.com/articles/tiscali/broadband.htm the great tiscali swindle, that is)

Assuming that you mean that WinMTR is showing a chronic loss of 5% within a hop or two of your "front door" there is little that you can do other than lower your bandwith under Preferences>Network until the bar to the right of your L$ remains mostly black, complain to your ISP, or find another ISP.

It may well be that your ISP has oversubscribed its user capacity and for various reasons, SL does not suffer chronic loss well.

Hey there, having exactly the same problems here...and guess what! I'm on Tiscali too, I'm convinced thats it's them causeing my SL problems.
I've tried *everything* to fix this. With days and days of fiddling, tweaking and reinstalling firewalls, antivirus and SL I've temporarily fixed the problem but as soon as I turn the pc off it would go back to being terrible. Went out and bought a shiny new super pc as the old one was only just above spec, still no change in the problem even with different pc and different anivirus ect.
The best part is that there is no way to get away from Tiscali, my contract has another 8 months to go, and even when it does they are notoriously slow at changing over. I'm actually considering putting in a new phone line and hooking that up to a new broadband service, then disconnecting the other one. But it's gonna cost £75 plus I'll lose my old phone number : (((( Tiscali suck!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone else out there on Tiscali??? Anyone actually working SL on it?

Exact same problems here, and I think you can guess what ISP I'm on: Tiscali. Currently, I'm unable to leave the Island Sandbox because everywhere else takes far, far too long to load to even be playable. :(
