I've uninstalled/reinstalled both quicktime and my sound card's newest drivers. I have an Audigy Platinum. When I log out I get a burst of sound for about two tenths of a second, and then sound returns as normal on my PC.

nm, changed .exe's compatibility mode to Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5) and now it works fine. It worked for World of Warcraft and it's worked again here lol

Exact same issue here: no sound with either the Sound Blaster Audigy MP3 or the Griffin iMic USB audio interface output.
I switched the .exe to NT4.0 SP 5 compatibility, and while sound works, SL complains that QuickTime is not installed (it is!) and I have no movie access.
