I can never figure this out. Someone tried to tell me how once.

I've been on a shopping spree on SL Exchange. Bought several avatars.

Now, How do I put them on?

Right now, I'm going into the "box" objects the avatar pieces come in. I end up dragging each individual piece to a new directory in my inventory. Then I right click on each piece and select wear. (I'm careful not to select and accidentally reposition the various pieces on my avatar.)

Then I go to Edit... Appearance and select 'Save As...' I see a bunch of checkboxes (gloss over this entirely) select 'Ok' or something similar, and only find a folder of dups in my inventory.

Hmmm. Now what. How do I "hotswap" the look I want? can I take on and off an avatar in one big group?

Are their any gotchas I should know about such as: "Don't do it like this or it won't be saved in your inventory and you'll loose it." ?

Thanks so much!

Once you have a particular avatar unpacked and in it's own folder in the inventory, simply drag the folder onto yourself. You can do this with clothing outfits also. Always be sure to save your 'default' av and check all the boxes that should be applicable for your default look.

Ok. Yes, at the moment you will have to initially drag your avatar from the contents of its box if thats how it comes. Some do, some don't. Like, Luskwood Avies are delivered direct to your inventory in its own folder. Heaven.

Anyhoo, you're doing it right - make a new directory, put everything in it.

Now, to wear it, just highlight the whole folder - not the items - and drag it to your avie. Be careful to have a copy of the avie you're currently wearing BEFORE you do this!

As to making copies, well, that depends on if the parts are copyable. If so, then yes, wear the original avie, go into edit and use 'make outfit'. Then select the parts you want to include in your new folder. Again, using Luskwood avies as an example, they're copyable and modifyable, so you can select every box and make a complete copy of your whole purchase. Which is a very wise idea if you intend to modify it in any way.

/me feels stupid.

I used to know this stuff, but seeing as I never really got an avatar other than my puny human, I never used it. So with the time I forgot about this option.
Few days ago, I did get a cool new AV and spent over 20 minutes copying each object one by one into another folder. ^ ^

Oh joy of reading forums, that IS some useful stuff. Thanks all.

Oh, good luck Tinker, I hope it worked for you too. :D
