I crashed about 4 or 5 times trying to get into the sim west of Sido. What live help told me is that I need New Chipsets for my Motherboard.

No I do not. everything else I run works just fine. I run Google Earth, MVP2006 (Which is very intense on the resources) and other things and they work just fine.

I suspect that its the Software thats the problem... Like the Updates you know... I think they need to just absolutly stop with the updates and work on the lag and crashes.

Its not my computer. It never was. Its the dang updates. And its not the ISP either!!!

If 'updating your chipsets' means updating your chipset drivers, it doesn't mean getting a new motherboard. If you've got nforce on your motherboard, try downloading the lastest drivers from nvidia.

I'm not too sure what problems you're getting, but I was crashing a lot recently and I had no idea why it was. I was on to LL tech support about three times. Kona Linden even tried giving me a hand in world and we still couldn't work it out. I blamed SL for being badly coded and just not working. :D

Turns out my PC was overheating and crashing second life. My cpu fan was full of dust and crap. I cleaned it out, and now I can stay online for as long as I like. It was totally my fault after all.

Don't give up trying to get it working basically

... just update your video drivers.

You should also try to turn off your particle rendering - a heavy dose of these can wreck havoc on some older hardware.

Brand new video cards can arrive with out of date drivers.

The chipset drivers, if that is what Live Help was referring to, are different from the the video card drivers.

Taking the case off and looking around while it runs is not a bad idea.

I had a computer that crashed only while running SL; the power supply fan was in the process of dieing. Replaced the power supply and that solved the problem.

Telling me to find another game etc etc is a Personal Attack. I might had worded that wrong but you know what I mean.

Now back on topic... My hardware is only 2 years old and ran Second Life just fine until this last update. All drivers are up to date. infact I have a New Graphics card installed which by the way, when it was installing it fetched the latest drivers.

Your motherboard also has drivers - known as "chipset drivers" - which are possibly what live help was getting at. Note, these are NOT the same thing as graphic drivers... chipset drivers are the things that make all the tricked-out neat stuff on your motherboard work. I'm guessing you haven't updated these since you bought the PC, and 2 years is a long time in computing. Try tracking down the latest chipset drivers for your machine and see if that helps.

I have two computers that I play SL on and the latest update is crashing on both of them.
It apears random and does not occur very often.
I am sending crash reports each time it occurs.

I've also found that setting the bandwith to 300kps no longer reduces the packet loss.

That might be the Problem.

Let me talk about my PC for an Example :
If i install a Geforce Card (we need to know Detailed Information about your Mainboard / Video Card btw.) Windows tries to download Drivers from Microsoft.
These Drivers fail miserably with allmost every Game. Only the Drivers from the Chip Manufacturer (NVIDIA in my Case) are worth trying.
The same Problem arises with my Sound-'card' (onboard AC97 thing)
Microsoft Drivers lead to no Sound at all.
Chipset ? i had crashes while launching SL, too.
My Mainboard is a DFI AD77 Infinity, with VIA KT400A Chipset - VIA has a nice Driver Package, easy to Download and install.

Know your Hardware, and find the best Drivers, stay away from automated Driver Updates by Microsoft.

If your System still crashes with the best and latest Drivers, find a Linux CD/DVD,
boot it and run the 'memtest' from the boot menu (for 30-60 minutes) - bad RAM is the Number one Reason for crashing Systems, it happend a lot for me.

Well, good luck, you will get the Problem solved if you really try.

Brand new video card does not necessarily mean Good video card. You can buy Nvidia 5200 brand new at Wal Mart still as well as MX400 cards which are utterly neolithic and are barely able to run SL if at all. ATI 9250s are in the same boat, they sell em new but they are bottom of the barrel (other than some laptop graphics which can be even more primitive) and are hit and miss.

It would help a lot if you gave some specs, brands etc.
