Emerald OTR = Constant Fail making Emerald unusable

The last 12 freaking messages i have sent to one person returned OTR errors resulting in the message not being sent.

WTF is this function in Emerald? It is totally making Emerald unusable for me. Why is this feature even needed and why was it implemented before it worked properly?

The GreenLife design team needs to raise the bar on the quality control of these releases and stop pumping in features just to make it a robust client when the features are buggy as hell.

If the feature does not work reliably - do not introduce it. I would rather have no encrypted message capability than have 12 freaking messages never make it to the recipient because of a stupid ERROR of some sort beyond the users control.

These OTR errors can obviously make socializing in SL (at least with other Emerald users) impossible. The feature needs to be removed and fixed and if the fault is not their own, and no fix is possible it needs to be removed until future advancements allow for reliable OTR communication.

I am now installing Snowglobe and wow is it going to feel like a handicapped experience in comparison.

If you go to Preferences>Emerald>IM, and tick the Decline use of OTR it turns off OTR.

But what happens when other people are using OTR while IMing me with OTR Decline on?

Will they still get "send message errors"?

- thanks for the tip

I was using Emerald last night and I couldn't get group info to load. I don't know if that was Emerald's fault or not. I didn't see any comments suggesting group functions were down.

they shouldn't get errors if you turn it off, should just say non-private. Send LGG a message and make sure He knows there is an issue, they usually get right on a fix (unlike LL who waits till 4364834687 people complain then ignore it, lol)

Actually, I think we'll have a better chance of winning the lottery than figuring out the information from the Lindens.

Curious about the Emerald Viewer and all the features?

Off-the-Record (OTR) Messaging allows you to have private conversations over instant messaging by providing:

Encryption
No one else can read your instant messages.
Authentication
You are assured the correspondent is who you think it is.
Deniability
The messages you send do not have digital signatures that are checkable by a third party. Anyone can forge messages after a conversation to make them look like they came from you. However, during a conversation, your correspondent is assured the messages he sees are authentic and unmodified.
Perfect forward secrecy
If you lose control of your private keys, no previous conversation is compromised.

God knows how much of this nonsense Emerald implemented.

Thanks. I did not respond because all i knew was that it was some sort of encryption.

I was authenticating with people and i guess that is when the problem occurred - after authentication.

I have since continued to use Emerald and just changed the OTR setting to whatever i was told to do above.

Emerald is still a great viewer - just some bugs and for some people some bugs are more show stoppers than others...especially if you do not know how to turn stop the bug from reoccurring by turning the feature off...like me. :p :o

WTF is OTR, JATLA?

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!

Eskimos 100 words for snow:

jatla: snow between your fingers or toes, or in groin-folds

But wtf is this;

ertla: snow used by Eskimo teenagers for exquisite erotic rituals

I think I'll take the ertla over Argent's jatla

Just Another Three Letter Acronym.

What a blast. I wrote a program to encrypt messages over a chat system back in '83.

Sure you were not complaining about snow in your groin-folds?

EDIT: Although I think someone pulled a fast one on us because they also have:

wa-ter: melted snow

MacTla: snow burgers

&

depptla: a small snowball, preserved in Lucite, that had been handled by Johnny Depp

As I understand it, both parties have to be using OTR for it to do anything at all. I think it will be just as if you were using the ordinary client.

I didn't care to comment, but the "Eskimo words for snow" meme is pretty much busted these days. Even wikipedia doesn't endorse it (and goes on to lists dozens of words for snow in English).
