Ugh, it's been a battle for over 2 weeks that whenever I try and play the game my computer will shut down. I don't mean just boot me from the game...like ALL power is turned off!

I've stopped running any programs in the background in case that was taking too much power and it's still happening, and now worse then ever. I can stay in world for about 5 minutes and then its done.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. It's a desktop model I use and its only about 9 months old.

Almost without exception, this is caused by a bad/underpowered power supply or something overheating.

But only now? Why did this start now after being able to play for 9 months? Wouldn't the power in my computer be the same or do all the new bells and whistles in th game take up even more power then before?

Sounds like overheating. Have you ever opened the case to clean the fans and inside with some compressed air? The usual culprit is dust not allowing the fans to do their job.

Electronic stuff starts to be less efficient, stuff gets dirty, programs change and demand more from your machine. I can hear the fans in my PC speed up after running the WindLight viewer for 5-10 minutes - doesn't happen with the standard viewer.

Some machines have ways to tell your their temperature readings. On mine, I have one thing that'll tell me the vid card temperature (from NVidia) and another that will tell me the mobo and processor temperature (from Asus). Look around - yours might have similar things.

This was happening to me in the weeks leading to my power supply blowing and taking out the motherboard.... worth looking into?

..upside was I got an expensive upgrade that my wife wouldn't let me get while the "old" computer was still working :)

That's exactly how power supplies fail. I think mine failed at around that same age. And they very annoyingly don't just quit working. They halfway work, making it really difficult to tell what part of the computer is failing when it shuts off unexpectedly. They often won't repeat the problem when you take it to a technician.

Well crap, shame its less then a year old and isn't compatible anymore. I can't see upgrading it just for the sake of a 'game' ya know?

Thanks for your help, methinks its time to pack up, sell and move onto greener virtual pastures :-)

Honey, I don't think this is a compatibility problem at all. Your power supply is just going out.
