hi guys,
most of you might not like this and tell me to try everything out myself but... this stuff is really naggin me.
i got a p4 HT 2,8 @ 3.3Mhz Connect 3D X850 PRO 256DDR2 (500mhz gpu/1000mhz mem) 1024 DDR400 CL2.5 in dual channel and a 2MBIT DSL connection
which, one could guess, would be good enough to play a game like this at a good resolution with somewhat of details...
i have no problem at playing bf2 in the highest resolution at very high details, even if its not really comparable to this game, since everything is optimized in bf2.
i still dont understand why this game is so hardware-intensive... i understand the lagging coz of the DL from i-net. but even the graphic processing is killing my machine at high details.
could you give me some hints on what options i should turn on and which not?
which ones requiere the most "power"?
maybe someone with a comparable gpu could post his best working setting?

Avatars / prims / textures is why SL so dang heavy + the terrabytes of textures , no other game i know use 2048x2048 textures ~.~ and millions of 512x512 one's Do not run SL with local light on, unless, youre in a very quiet low prim not to populated sim , its ok if you face away from everything tho. 1 Sim with local light, and big view distance + avatars , well most i seen it eats up 800-1200mb of ram : p, wich is ouch. View distance - 128-196m Rest is pretty trivial for fps really, wont do much for fps for you :>, gpu does some work for SL but its pretty much brute cpu you want here.

turn off the fog option in the debug menu....
goes something like Debug - world - rendering - fog... just remove the little x and see what it does to framerate...
Also the frame rate debugger doesn't give an accurate account of the actuall FPS that you see.... the best way to see a true FPS count is to download a program called fraps...
I'm hoping at some point the SL team will make a patch that allows you to turn off the fog all together, Or replace it with a solid corona..
